Today I was flying off-line in a D9 45, fall of Berlin etc. Anyway, we were given the task of protecting our ground forces from enemy bombers. Flying as the leader of the second schwarm I took off and headed off toward the interception area near the Seelowe Hills. A large gaggle of Russian bandits were spotted and we were soon tangling with escort fighters. I ordered my scwarm to attack the bombers whilst myself and the first schwarm took on the fighters. The ensuing battle was fierce,it taking time to down 3 La 7s. What I did realise during the melee is that my second Rotte of had become entangled with the fighters, leaving the bombers to carry on their dirty work. I think some of the bombers (Sturmoviks) were downed by the flak but they continued virtually unchallenged to attack the ground forces and hurridly left the area. I'd just downed my third Lagg and realised the bombers couldn't be too far away.

A quick look round revealed I was right, and I took off after them. They in turn were heading toward 2 distant dots. When the Sturmoviks turned sharpley behind the dots and proceeded to fire, I realised the two dots must be friendly aircraft(which they were two HE 111s returning from a mission). I could'nt believe it Sturmoviks trying to shoot down Heinkels. They downed 1 of them but fortunately for reamaining Heinkel, I'd closed the distance to get withing firing range, and took down the Sturmovik leader. The remainder of my schwarm took down the other two Sturmoviks.

I don't think I've ever seen that before, the Sturmoviks obviously had run out of ground targets and tried to attack a target of opportunity in the two Heinkels. Ultimately the Sturmoviks paid for their boldness but realism of this encounter, well what can I say.

Yesterday I discovered the belly turret of the B-25 being lowered - I don't know what triggers this but if it's the presence of enemy fighters then it's really cool. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

In the SB-2 there is a similar occurance as the ventral and dorsal rear guns are both fired by the same crewman. You can watch him, and when he's in the dorsal position, the hood is slid back and he's manning the gun. When a fighter drops below his arc, he slides the hood back in place, and ducks down to the ventral gun and starts to fire. It's cool!!

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!

When the B-17 was first added, you were able to shoot the ball turret off the plane with cannon fire.

But that feature was removed in the next patch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

so THATS why I can't seem to damage the ball turrets on B 17's

what a shame :s
I thought it had something to do with my graphics settings(running on the next best thing settings(can't find the name now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif))

There`s always something new that happens and I`ve been flying a loong time.

Had one just the other day when I (in my I16) shot up a 109. It caught fire and started going down. I flew really close by and above him when suddenly he exploded! I felt the blast wave (FF stick) and saw my cockpit judder. Then to my horror the I16 caught fire!

I only just managed to bail out!

It`s little things like that which keeps me flying! Oleg has a sim that will stand the test of time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think it has to do with AI aggresiveness. Was flying a Stuka campaign in Stalingrad, was escorted by 8 Mc.202s(?), was attacked by 4 enemy aircraft, all eight escorts left us four bombers, we got to target area and encountered four more enemy fighters, one damaged me(which is totally bogus as AI seems to always go after YOU first), anyways I limped back to base and landed, cycled the views to see how the others did, none attacked the ground targets and I saw the other 3 Stukas in a DF attacking the other fighters. While sometimes it does look heroic, its a pain in the a** to see AI doing stupid stuff.
