A taste of the future in gaming - Here are some great scenery/lighting/graphics effects http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif. Imagine having that dam in SoW http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif :

From the folks who brought you the Max Payne games. This title (Alan Wake) looks pretty interesting (aside from the graphics.) The title character is a horror writer who goes to this exquisitely rendered town to attend a sleep clinic. Supposedly as the game progresses, and Alan becomes more sleep deprived, the surroundings start getting weirder and weirder. I think some folks in Finland have been reading a lot of Steven King. I just read that it's Vista only (DX10 would help explain the graphics.) It should be out sometime this year.

Good name: A. Wake. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Re the clip: It really makes you wonder how flight sims are going to look in 10 years time. I think they will be better than we can even imagine at this point in time.

Also note the way the animations stop as the camera/view pans around the image. We could do with that function in SoW: stop the animations when you pan your view, to stop the overload of info that has to be computed..

Few of us will buy that game. Those that do will play it for a week before putting it on top of the tall stack of CDs that we never use.

Then it'll be back to the crude looking sims by unheard of developers. Because we know it's all about the game, not the graphics. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The game character animations are very PS2 looking. Hope they do something about that.

I think it would take quite a bit more processing power to render those kind of graphics out to say 30km in every direction. That is the biggest problem when comparing flight sims with these FPS games. There is a much smaller world for the PC to generate for a FPS as opposed to a flight sim and therefore takes much LESS processing power for the FPS. I fear that it will take quite a while till the PC hardware will be capable of producing graphical quality like this for ANY flight sim. I hope that I am wrong.

Rendering graphics like that obviously takes some serious horsepower and they say DX10 and quad-core are both necessary...I just hope the water and environment are interactive and not simply static (it LOOKS interactive, but so do cutscenes).

Amazing.. I wonder what breakthroughs will come in the next 10 years that will allow us to run something like that with 100 planes in the air...

wow. As jaded as I am about the dumbing down of games in favour of graphics, this is really quite amazing. In fact, I think we`ve come to the point where we are truly realising graphics that will be as real as when you look outside your window.

I reckon within 5 years we will have `life-realistic` graphics. It certainly came quicker than I expected. The actual man animation is a little unrealistic, though, would be better to cut it out and have it in 1st person.

Now, if only programmers would put realistic gameplay and depth into these very same engines. My greatest fear is that we`ll have `real-life` graphics, but non-interactive, non-depth and be incredibly brainless to play.

...and dont come back with anything under 500W.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif over 600 is even better and more proactive... consider adding more stuff... sticks...TIR etc... and take that into consideration.

When you see it close up and at high res on a large screen it doesn't look as impressive as it does in that video http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
