Being a UK resident I really shouldn't care...but since the UK is influenced by the USA in certain areas and vice versa it does become somewhat important but not directly.

I have no love for politicians, I simply detest them as they are only in it for themselves and no one else.

It is difficult to pose this question since some of those who are listed are already out of the runnning, notably Fred Thompson. Obviously, the democrat front runners will be Clinton and Obama, while the Republican race is fairly wide open. It's tough to choose...besides it won't be me who will be voting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well, ....I am a U.S. citizen, so I guess I can make a comment here without having it look like simple "mudslinging".

I have lived too long to have any idealism left: ......The only people in this country who are qualified for the job don't want it! .......And the people who do want the job, all want it for the wrong reasons!

To paraphrase Douglas Adams; ...."I wouldn't trust any of them any further than I could spit a rat!!"

I tent to lean toward War Heroes, so John McCain is my first choice. Although I was leaning towards Fred Thompson, but he just bailed out of the race.

My choices:
1) John McCain
2) Rudy
3) Hilary

I am not so comfortable voting for someone with a similar name to Osama, so Obama is not in my favor.

Hmmm hard to say.

Looking at the U.S electorial system i would say the real question is which lobby you want to rule the country by bringing "a friend" into the oval office. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It seems that only candidates which have "friends" with enough money to finance these months long (way too long if you ask me) campaigns have a realistic chance to become president in the end. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I have a feeling that the democrats will make it this time. Dont know if Clinton or Obama but these two will obviously be the only real front runners in the end.

Well, somehow he raises an interesting issue about the precidency of USA: it has always been a white man.
It's primitive, but let's face it: I think this is why both Hillary and Obama are popular too. I mean sure they have interesting POVs, but they would both write history, if anyone of them are elected in the final run. Either as being the first woman or as the first black person. If it will be one of them as the final candidate, it will be interesting if the other is to be chosen as vice-president candidate, which also would write history. I think Glenn Close, the actress, portraying to be vice-president in a film is the closest a woman has been to be in the White House, so to speak...

Anyway, of the above remaining candidates, I think, I would personally, if I were a US citizen, vote for:
1) Hillary
2) Obama
3) McCain (the only Republican, which I respect)

Or maybe even...

I'm going to write myself in...oh wait, I can't while i'm still in this line of work I do.

tough question...Abe Lincoln, that's it! Oh wait, he's dead.

I'm not thoroughly impressed with any of them, but I'm leaning towards McCain, if his health doesn't hold out we can always take his brain and put it in a robot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

@Libbabit...hmmm, I know people who know Mitt Romney well also...the seven degrees of Mitt Romney! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

It's really going to come down to the battle of the hairstyles, so it's going to be Romney versus Edwards, may the best hair Gel win! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I guess because I would trust her with/where I banked my pension.
Who is to be the Leader of The Free World?
I think the Clintons are not too trigger happy.

I find it disturbing that while Europe and most of the world are becoming less Socialistic, the United States seems bound and determined to become more Socialistic. All the Democrats and half the Republicans are proposing policies which would enact just such changes though. I guess something in our psyche makes us think we can make it work when everyone else is backing off of it as a bad idea. I guess we shall have to hide and watch. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I would jokingly suggest photo-shopping Hillary's face onto the picture in the OP, but her and Bill were openly disdainful and insulting towards any military personnel they encountered during the first eight years of their reign. So unless we assume those are IRS agents about to go round up massive taxes from rich corporations, the whole joke doesn't work.

May we all live in interesting times!

@sevenem;

Your point could have been made in two sentences, ...without the inflammatory rhetoric:

"I like Obama."

"I don't like the Incumbent."

The future of this thread is in doubt if it gets drawn into emotional rants filled with subjective political accusations. I ask all to reserve such posts for those forums that are specifically dedicated to political debate.

Ah, socialism. Where's McCarthy now? "The Reds are coming, the Reds are coming!" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Talk about someone with their own private agenda not caring who they stepped on!

All those years this country pointedly made itself anti-socialist, and now to embrace it. Doesn't make much sense. Especially after the fall of the USSR, and proof that it doesn't work as a main social strategy.

As for who I'd vote for, there isn't a one of them that even comes close to sparking interest. It isn't a matter of who I like, it's a matter of who I dislike the least.

Benjamin the Goldfish for president! "Who can? Ben Can!".

By the way, I've heard that it is at least theoretically possible to elect a fish, or a dog, or a cat, or a mouse, president of the U.S.

I remember that Simpsons episode in which the aliens Kang and Kodos disguise themselves as Bill Clinton and Bob Dole and run for u.s presidency.

Bob Dole :

"My fellow americans, when i was a young boy, i dreamed of being a baseball."

But tonight i say, we must move forward not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling twirling twirling towards freedom !"

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Bill Clinton :

"I AM GOVERNOR KLIN-TONN and as your president , i will demand nothing less than absolute loyalty to my unlimited imperatorship and that you follow my cruel orders without any questions. End of communication."

In another forum where I hang out there is a discussion about Clinton and Obama and I am amazed by how shallow many people are with respect to those two candidates. I am floored by how many people are saying that Clinton or Obama should be president because they are female/black. That is so insulting and demeaning. So much for the merits of the individual, if it comes down to choosing somebody on their race or sex over their policies and political record.

Wouldn't it be interesting to hold an election where the voting public was only allowed to see the candidate's personal record, their personal achievements, and their stand on the issues!!

No pictures, no gender/race description, no "who has the best hair"! ....Just the facts!

If I were a betting man, which I am not, I would say the next president will be a Democrat. They are turning out in much higher numbers so far. And if I were American, which I am not, I would vote for Barack Obama and hope, should he win, that he puts the right people in place.

After eight years of "Dubya", a Republican Candidate would have to be able to walk on water in order to get into the White House!

Over the past 25 years, one of the things that has characterized our two major Political Parties is their apparent fixation with finding the most "un-electable" candidates available, and then trying to "spin doctor" them into something that the public MIGHT vote for out of desperation!

It's really pretty sad!
