Since my online time has been cut down due to work constraints, I decided to try and apply the firing solutions suggested by an RAF pamphlet I found in the SimHQ forum a long time ago...heck, I figured I'd tried everything else!

The manual is here:

http://www.darts-page.us/files/gunnery01.htm

Anyhow, I took up a Hurricaine against Emils, and when the plane was here:

http://www.darts-page.com/files/ring_shoot.jpg

I fired, as it looked a lot like Plane "E" in the pamphlet:

http://www.darts-page.us/files/b7.jpg

And got these results:

http://www.darts-page.com/files/ring_hit.jpg

Spooky, ain't it? The sim matches the gunnery solution to the nanosecond as portrayed!

Very cool.

The video of it:

http://www.darts-page.com/files/ring_gunnery.avi

Please right click and save the video.

Of course I was firing past my convergence...

Thats a '43 manual iirc. But it works with all british pippers. The deflection shooting and stuff works with all gunsites believe it or not. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Just that you can't get such range estamites with other gunsites till we find out how those work.

You know its kind of creepy,
My pop was an Olympic Skeet shooter, and as far as I can remember I was always tought to lead a target. So when it comes to hitting my mark I have a knack for it. I start with short burst, then adjust. When I see the desired affect I pour it on!! All 9 Yards if I have too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

From this day to the end of the world, we in it shall be remembered, we band of brothers http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Vic-Whiplash/Lance.jpg

Convergance is such a pain.

I'm dangerously close to giving up wing-mounted weapons for good.

When you choose a firing solution that suits the situation, and then realise that the pattern is going to just spray all over the place, its frustrating. Especially when your opponent is in a faster plane, and pulling away.

Just one of the many delimas of choosing a suitable bird I guess.

Another thing that gets on my nerves is the deflection needed for hi-cal weapons. I've hit awesome leads at long ranges with light guns, but the damage is minimal. With heavy rounds, the bullet drop just throws me off. More practice is needed on my part http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
