So, the following left me in stitches:

intercepted a convoy in the NW corner of AM in very bad weather, sank 2 Large Tankers, a Whale factory ship, and a Large Merchant, let the rest pass through and a Black Swan class DD trying to catch up caught my 1st ever fired homer from the stern and went down quickly, then decided to follow the convoy to see if I could catch any stragglers, well did I ever, it seems all that manouvering in heavy seas was too much for the large vessels and several of them were floundering in the waves, bagged myself a 24K liner, 4 more large merchants and a flower class that tried to investigate even though it seemed to have real problems just staying afloat, blew it to pieces anyway, total tonnage sunk over the course of 85NM; 129395 tonnes, still makes me chuckle http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I am really starting to love homing torpedos when going after escorts. I am now launching attacks and then staying at periscope depth in order to launch on the escorts that come after me. It seems to work nearly every time!

Assuming they don't detonate the instant they leave the tube (grouse). Last patrol, mid 1944, Type XXI. Had two Zaunkoning Is. First one fired couldn't have gotten much futher than arming distance (330 meters or so) before it detonated. So I had to crash dive and evade. Second one actually worked, but enticing the target to go fast enough so that the torp could hear it (12kts) but not so fast as to out run it (over 25kts) was rather difficult. Still, when they work, they are nice.
