Right I already have a 360 but I just came into some money (about 650) and I was thinking I would upgrade this old outdated PC and if I could get some pretty decent parts I might buy AC for PC.

Heres the specs I have (with the picked out parts)

2gig DDR2 Dual Channel 800mhz ($60)
Pentium D 3.0ghz 4mb L2 Cache ($60)
EVGA 8600GTS 512mb GDDR3
6801-SE Mobo (SLI Ready in case I want to)(This bundled with the gfx $350)
Diablotek Sound Card ($25)
Case ($80)

Ill have a 500 Watt PSU and plenty of cooling (2x 120mm fans)($60 theyre not bundled together)
Total 635 (after tax)

So any comments/upgrades just post em itll be much appreciated also how do you think this will run AC?

You sure you wanna go with something as the... the Pentium D? Why Not go Core 2 Duo? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I myself have E6600 2.4GHZ OCed to 3.0GHZ with air cooling and it's always been stable, not to mention the fact that it would outperform that Pentium D any day :P.

Pentium D is really all I can afford, the gfx card will help it has that physics processor thing in it so the CPU shouldnt be too much of a drag. Although if you can find me a Core 2 for that price that would be amazing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'd go for a E4300, which is alot better then that Pentium D. I've no idea what it costs in your place, but if you don't have enough money, just save some more. You'll have like a few months left before AC comes to pc http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
It's really worth it, trust me.

Just don't buy anything. Yet.

With DDR3 RAM and the 9000 series of Geforce cards coming, you can be sure to expect price drops in slightly older models, which you'll really need if you can't afford the Core 2 Duo, nevermind the Quad.

AC is most likely going to be a very processor resource draining game, something as cheap as the Pentium D would really struggle in more busy environments.

I have an Intel D 2,8GHz and most of the time it works pretty well but for this kind of titles and also for the upcoming in 2008 (FarCry2 and such) you will need a Core2, around january there will be some more Core2's and Quad's coming to the market wait on that !

if thats all you can afford, go with an xbox 360. a good pc that will last a few years will cost 800-1000. a pc with what you mentioned might last a year or less. sadly thats fast technology changes with pcs.

Above comment is ill informed ... your pc may well be a dying console, but hardcore gamer pc users (:S mouthful http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif) just keep updating their pcs until they're in par with the deathstar

Don't get me wrong, I'm a ps3 gamer, but the pc is definately not dying out... well mine is http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

If you intend playing Graphics intensive games, like the average FPS game then maybe the video card may be more important than the cpu, BUT if you want to play games that really use the cpu, like a lot of RTS games, such as the Total War series, or mmorpg's like WoW, the cpu choice becomes far more important.
If you do just stay with the P4D cpu for now in order to buy a good video card, at least make sure that the Mobo supports core 2 duo, not all Lga 775 socket boards do. You could get stuck without a future upgrade option if you get the wrong one.
You didn't say if you were running XP or Vista, if it's Vista you want 4gb memory to have enough for the games.

Ow, and I think that GPU is pretty nice, if you don't need ultra high graphics. And if you're on a budget, you shouldn't want those über graphics; you'll never get them.

by me (south florida at least) CompUsa just dropped the GeForce 7600 and 8500 by about $50
now they're both $100 which is great!

so um u can wait til the new expensive ones come out, im not sure if these will drop anymore. maybe that WAS the price drop for my area

b-busher, if you have something constructive to post, do so - otherwise, refrain from such comments.
Thanks.

If you can't afford the Core 2 Duo right now, I really suggest that you wait until the price drops.

The Pentium D is an aging architecture and it will NOT run AC well. Although the 8000 series of GeForce cards are pretty good, the 8600 isn't the best, and you would get sub-par DX10 performance. It would be best to wait until the 9000 series so either you can get a 9000 series or get the 8800 cheaper.

Right now there are some pretty good sales for Mobos and RAM. Also DDR3 Memory wont fly anytime soon (seeing as 2gigs cost you nearly 650 bucks) I think ill pick up the ram right now cause it was dropped 70 bucks O_O
