Does anyone know which VMFs were at Okinawa and which carriers they were on? I'm really trying to confirm if there was a Marine Corsair squadron on USS Boxer and which one it might have been. Does anyone know a website that might have that info or a list of which squadrons served on which carriers during the war?

The Boxer did not join the fleet until August 1945 at San Diego. It did Not participate in WWII.

Four squadrons were actually ashore on Okinawa. VMF-222, VMF-323, VMF(N)-542 and VMF(N)-543. No mention of any Marine Corps fighters on Boxer according to this site. (http://pacific.valka.cz/airunits/index_frame.htm)

The book Genda's Blade mentions that VMF-123 was aboard the USS Bennington in April of '45, and saw action over the Japanese home islands. Not the Boxer, but it starts with a "B" at least.
