It could be an airplane or a feature or somthing.

The most worthless thing in Il2 was the second person in the Beaufighter.
The community fixed that on the new MkX. The rear man actually fires a machine gun now, but before...nothing. Not even a peep from him when there was someone on your six.
The best feature is hard to me as there are so many.

Worthless stuff: cool planes you can't fly!

Indeed there are some worthless planes, but id rather not make this another airplane bashing thread, so i'm gonna say online kill scoring.

Its completely whacked that the last bullet gets the kill. Its the stir for a lot of arguing and unnecessary bickering. On occasion, i might get the kill either unintentionally or not, and then i'm harassed by a teamate for the next 20 minutes about it. It seems this configuration, should be remedied if the next patch ever gets released.
Solution: who ever does the most damage gets the kill.

Its an old platform from 2001, so i understand, and its not completely worthless. I've seen various mods that offer some benign features, but this seems to be a universal problem that i'm surprised no one has fixed yet. It could really get rid of a lot of the nastiness of online playing.

Most useful feature.
Mouse panning...With out mouse panning, i don't know where i'd be in this game. For myself, its more accurate and stable than using a hat switch, and i dont have TIR, so this is a very useful feature.

Im still somewhat a n00b to this sim so I cant say, although my TIR5 made the game more enjoyable.

+1

This is why I fly with unlimited Ammo.

What you think these planes were instantly reloaded on landing? It took time, for reloading and refueling. Instant-reload would suck balls.

Ya Me to But what do you do about the extra bombs when you land.

SILVERFISH1992

I didnt mean right away.
another worthless thing: no people or cars, I know there wasnt very many cars back then.

I just land with them, but I usualy dont carry bombs.

Sure but the ground crews would have more time to fix the hols in your wings and fuselage. And not instantly but I think it would be cool though.

Another wonderful thing: You dont have to pay any money or points to get a new airplane, unlike some raceing/flying games.

Landing lights are cool, I wish every plane had them.

BillSwagger
07-13-2009, 08:17 AM
actually it would be cool to be able to land and refuel/reload or repair.
Even if this would take some time in a realistic setting, whats to say there couldn't be another plane waiting for you when you landed??
I use my imagination, it just seems like a lacking thing in a campaign situation, so for that it should be an option like other difficulty settings.

Excellent idea maybe a plane that patched together. But think about watching your team battle through your screen as you wait on the tarmac for the ammo refuiler to get there.
My mom would have me commuted for yelling at the game.
I think your on to somthing

Worst thing: Copilot, gunners, soldiers etc. they look like Playmobil.

Best thing: Mods.

The best thing are the graphics. The sounds the smoke when you hit the I key. The shells falling from the wings. And my favorite thing Carrier landings and Nailing the second wire.
Stuck flaps when I forget to retract (especially after I trim} That sucks. Wouldent be so bad with a ground crew though.

I think the windscreen wiper on the Mossie is both one of the most worthless and one of the best things in game. The only other thing that comes close is the pencil in the TB-3.

Most worthless:
Seeing your speed and hdg in the lower left corner+Seeing "Enemy aircraft destroyed"+Seeing enemy planes when press "S".

Most usefull:
The whole game.

Most useless: The Lerche (Not complaining, but I have never flown that in the past 2 years, not even for curiosity.)
Must useful: CRT=2 (could be better though).

-I like being able to go back and watch the entire battle from start to finish.(Tracks)

-I hate how the AI tail gunners are expert long-distant snipers.

Most worthless: an Ace number Three or Number Five. They are never around when you need them, and they always show up when you've used up most of your ammo to get a really tough opponent smoking or burning to swoop in and take credit for all your hard work.

The best thing: following an opponent flying a 'more agile' aircraft through every twist and turn for four or five minutes, gradually catching up to him, finally pulling the trigger when he has just disappeared under your cowling and having your wingman shout "Nice shot, Number One! He's going to hell!" just as the 'Weapon out of Ammo' message appears in the lower right hand corner of your screen...

cheers

I wish we had something were we could modify the plane and tune it and stuff.

Without MODs.

That would be cool too, considering that field mods were common place for many aircraft.

I could see adjusting certain elements on the plane for certain missions.

Like more or less armor, for better handling or better protection.

More horse power or better fuel economy....

I also wish we could adjust fuel by weight not by the 25% increments.

I read that field mods also allowed some pilots to get up to 3000hp out of their PW-R2800s, knowing that they weren't having to fly long escort missions, so they opt for the extra horsepower for lower altitude ground pounding type missions.
Actually, its quite interesting and it would be foolish to think that pilots and crews wouldn't make changes to their factory built airplanes, much like a race car, so they could get the most out of them for a specific mission.

- Porked flight models and the 190 bar http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Best thing:
- M O D S http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Would there ever be consensus on this point?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

The most usefull: The ability to make our own missions.

The most useless: AI wingmen (wont protect your tail or alert you to trouble, while they hover and wait to steal your kill).

It would be nice to have the option to toggle "Team Scoring/Player Scoring".

It would be nice to have the option to toggle "reload and refuel", as mentioned above.

It would be nice to have the option to toggle "allow players to join game in progress" with a "setable" timer (would be nice for those times when an airstart or take-off kills a player in the first minutes of the mission).

It would also be nice to be able as a mission builder to program the AI using if-then type commands.

Personally I would trade better graphics for all of the above.

Personally I would trade better graphics for all of the above.

Yea I kinda noticed that as well. I thought it was just me, but it seems that the graphics are quite dated compared to FSX and other flight sims Ive seen. Hopefully BOB:SOW will correct this.

most useless thing: ALWAYS getting permission to land even when there's traffic on the runway.

(oh, and the view out of the 190...that's got to be a midget in there!)

Most beautiful thing: Flying through major cities, and being able to navigate by the major landmarks... (even the airfields in Berlin are pretty much where they're supposed to be)

Most worthless has to be that Ai can ignore the dive performance limitations of particular aircraft. Dive away from a Zero in an F4U and he'll still be with you at the same distance.

Best thing is Mods.

The most worthless thing (after wingman AI and online scoring): Flying a B-25 in a coop!!! Only the pilot can control the bombsite AND while using it the pilot must still fly the plane without any sort of autopilot...ugh!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

The Best Thing! (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/6751089367?r=6751089367)

The best thing about IL-2 that's not completely IL-2: TrackIR with the 6DOF mod! The immersion it provides can't be beat.

The most useful thing in Il2 is teammates.

It is much funner flying with a team knowing they have your back and can help when facing multiple opponents. Its also a great way to learn, and most of the time you can always find a decent set of guys flying and helping you out when needed.

The most useless thing in Il2 is teammates

They can get in the way, blocking your shot, by cutting in, and might even collide with you.
Sometimes they even shoot at planes that you've already shot down, meanwhile an enemy falls on your six.
My favorite useless thing a team mate does is blast the opponent with cannons from my 12, even though i'm on the enemies dead six, consequently hitting me in the process.
Of course thats my fault, i should pull off my attack, cause its much easier to kill an enemy from his 12 in Il2. (/sarcasm)

I can easily conclude that teammates are both the most useful and useless in Il2. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
