View Full Version : il2 viewing with a Monitor vs TV

I just went to Best Buy to see if they had the Samsung 226BW 22" monitor. I wanted to see if they would load my 1946 so I could see for myself if I could see aircraft against the ground any better then with my veiwsonic P95f...
they didn't have that monitor and the guy there told me that a flat screen tv would show the game better then a monitor.

Is this true?

I don't have $7-800 extra bucks for a new tv anyway, but if so perhaps I could start saving for that type of gameing upgrade...

How would a tv work as a monitor for just normal computer stuff?

max res of a tv is maybe 575. your computer running at 640 x 480 @60hz is about the same as a standard def. tv

if it's a modern flat screen tv with a VGA input, check the specs on the tv and it should give you the VGA resolutions it can handle.

for comparison, a 720p high def tv is the same as setting your desktop to 1280x720

I take that to mean that other aircraft should be easier to see, and much more clear on the TV then on a regular monitor?

Could I use my regular computer speakers while watching TV or do I have to use TV speakers.

more important that the res the TV can run is the pixel size in the tv

my samsung LCD tv doesnt look as crisp or detailed at 720P compared to my LCD monitor at the same resolution

Check the TV does 1080i, if not your better of with a LCD that does.

Remember you'll also need a good graphics card to run larger widescreen resolutions. My X1900XTX 512mb can struggle with some games running 1920x1200, no problem with IL2 runing maxed out with 8xfsaa but say ArmA or Stalker, I have to be more conservative with the settings.

Personally, if you play games more than watch TV or your thinking of getting a console, get a good 24" monitor. Just make sure its got all teh right inputs like composite, HDMI etc.

Maybe if you get a High Definition TV, otherwise it's pants.

Monitor will be much better imo.

Even if the tv is high def, I think the picture will probably be worse than a half decent monitor.
