README
Pacific Fighters v.3.04 (3.04m)

Warning

The current version 3.04 (3.04m) is not compatible with the previous versions of the game when playing via network. Both the server and client must have appropriate versions of the game in order to connect.

For your convenience we€ve introduced different version numbers for the stand-alone installation and the joint FB+AEP+PF install.
3.04 €" for stand alone PF
3.04m €" for FB+AEP+PF
And of course, the versions 3.04 and 3.04m are not compatible with each other playing via network.

Notes on the Patch Installation

This 3.04 patch may be installed over the previous 3.03 stand alone version.
The 3.04m patch version can only be installed over the merged PF 3.03m install (FB+AEP+PF).

To install the patch, run
1) Stand alone PF: PF_patch304.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

2) Merget install FB+AEP+PF: PF_patch304m.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

Main modifications and fixes

FM and aircraft performance

1. Corrected take off acceleration of the carrier based aircraft. Now it is easier to take off with the fully loaded aircraft.
2. Tuned maximal speed of F2A.

Other improvements:

In the new il2core and il2core_P4 DLLs, included in this patch, released the fixes of some glitches on ATI cards.

Video Driver Compatibility

NOTE: This only applies to users utilizing our highest graphic settings (Perfect).

Recommended drivers versions for ATI cards

Unfortunately, we can€t €œfix€ all internal problems of card drivers, so we may suggest the following for ATI card users:

In case of problems we recommend to use the old version 4.1 (except for using the X800 series cards, which have own drivers.)

NOTE: Please be sure to set proper default settings of graphics card from the list in the setup program and don€t set any decreasing quality settings. These options we recommend to use only in case of known problems with specific card, which may help to identify or partially solve possible problem. Please be sure that the default settings for each video card in the list in the setup program are the best.

Pettera and others, their links are wrong for the combined install.

The file over 3.03m is actually called pf_v303m_to_v304m.exe - either amend the link to reflect this name or simply browse for the correct file here (second from bottom) :-

I look at it this way - I wasn't expecting the new (big) patch until maybe this Friday, and probably next Friday.

This one is merely a "bonus" patch to get 19Mb of content out the way and distributed to the masses in the meantime. Various posts have indicated this and the next patch won't be far apart.

I would think though it may have been easier on them to wait and just release a bumper patch. This way they release a patch and get flamed for it, which doesn't happen very often http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If the flight model IS tweaked to allow online T/O with F4U's, then what happened to Oleg's statement that the true specs. don't allow for stationary carriers?

Willey
01-18-2005, 06:34 PM
The FM changes for carrier planes are marginal. I just did a quick test with a static Lex in DF mode, taking the first slot (alone). F4U-1A, 25% fuel. 3.03 = splash. 3.04 = just airborne, but quite close to waterskiing. I first thought one could take her off with full loading now, but it's still quite a hard job to get her off the deck.

I really like that they finally fixed those flashing canopies... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I just thought, it would be "the" patch - but it's just another small interim patch. But I like to have these. Better than 3-6 months of wait and nothing.

Is it correct to say that out of the two things 3.04 *FIXXED* one of them was to UN-FIX the FIX that BROKE the CV take offs in an earlier patch? I think the later.. and.. it is kind of a smart thing to do.. The less said the less chance someone with too much time on their hands will pick apart the fixes.. Thus the less they have to defend.. But.. I sure do miss the detailed fix lists that other games provide.

Personally, I always prefer to know what I'm fixing.

Me too.. but.. a software changes log.. something a good software team maintains wouldnt be very useful to us. Someone would still have to sit down and translate that log into useful info for us to read. I really think the *reason* why we dont get a detailed readme with all the changes listed is the less said.. the less detail provided.. the less they have to explain, justify, and defend.. That and I think they get a good laugh at all the roobs here who post after a patch saying stuff like

I THINK THEY CHANGED THE 50 CALS! I CAN KILL WITH THEM NOW.. or
I THINK THEY CHANGED F4U FM.. I CANT KILL ANYONE NOW.. or
I THINK THEY CHANGED KI82 CLIMB RATE.. I CAN CATCH A LA5 NOW..

When all the while nothing was touched there.. That must give them a really good chuckle reading these posts by these knuckel heads. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hey Tagert,

Good point my sentiments exactly! I get a kick about reading how the top speed of XX plane is 5 knots slower than the real plane with cowl flaps extended. Truly the less we know the better...I mean who cares look where we were in the days of SWOTL!

The laughs and the free flow of vodka must be something to see!

Didn't try all these different scenarios, but did take-off a Hellcat with 2x250lbs bombs AND rockets without any problem. I even almost made it with 2x500lbs AND rockets. Perhaps this is possible if one goes to the back of the carrier.

By the by we all realize that a full payload will not be possible/realistic with just the power of a single engine, right?

Hehe, I already purchased the BoB II online. Just waiting for it now. Once it comes in I think I will play it instead. Getting kind of old watching a Zero outdive a Coursair and or a Hellcat. Plus we still have not gotten "All" the planes we were promised in PF's release ( these planes like the Betty, were said to be included as flyable. Says this right on the box. Excuse me, am I blind? I don't see a flyable Betty yet. From what I herd it want come out till the next add-on ). Trust me, I want be buying the next add-on after being...umm...mislead so much.

Didn't try all these different scenarios, but did take-off a Hellcat with 2x250lbs bombs AND rockets without any problem. I even almost made it with 2x500lbs AND rockets. Perhaps this is possible if one goes to the back of the carrier.

Explain please how they did it in WW2 in the Pacific then? They didn't bring just one or two planes up from the hanger an launch them. They also were fully loaded. Just watch the Discover Wings / Military Channel. They toom off alot with 2 x External Tanks, sometimes a centerline bomb and wing rockets. From the B&W videos, they didn't have much of a problem doing it either. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

When running 3.04m, I go to Perfect and my sky and water goes black...3.04 standalone, no prob...I can see Perfect clearly (and it's beautiful!) but I'd like to be able to do this in 3.04m, since my squadron runs merged when playing online..

Has anyone been able to fly an aircraft off the shorter decked escort carriers? I've had a try with the default FM-2 with a range of fuel settings and no go. If so, whats your technique? Thanks.

I get off the MOVING FLEET CVs in both F6fs and F4Us with full loads full / tanks/bombs / rockets / etc. Static CVs and Escort CVs only standard loads (ammo/internal fuel) get you off the deck as far as I can tell.

I'm not claiming it's right or wrong, I'd have to do some research, but that's what I observe now. I happy though, just wish they would make moving CVs you could spawn on in a DF map.

Why doesnt the dedicated server pacth 304 support COOP games?
I would think with all the AI flying around this would be perfect use for a dedicated server. Can anyone answer this one?

There is one posibility that I didn't try. Most of those carriers were cruising at 50 - 60 Kts!

Easy, they used a "then" new invention called the hydraulic catapult...the fore runner to the modern steam catapult. The catapult is rendered magnificently in the textures, its just too bad it is not usable.

On another note I did a bit of testing myself after downloading the 3.03 patch using the F4U-1D, and my problems seem to be only with loadouts using the Tiny Tim rocket. I really can't claim having tried to take off with all loadouts, but with loadouts that I tried, the ones with rockets always ended in a swim just off the bow. Also, the AI had no more success getting their rocket loaded F4Us airborn either.

Er.... what the hell is the new 3.04 patch about ? The AI is now AD (artificial dumb), it has the greatest difficulty avoiding collisions with friendlies when flying in a straight line.
Combined with the inability of USN carrier aircraft to get off a carrier deck, it's a showstopper for me.....

Half an hour later and I've cooled down enough to apologise.....
I am however going back to previous patch levels, because this one sucks big time, in my opinion.

I tend to agree with Raisen as a first impression, then realise that actually this is pretty true to life! If you try to fly a fully laden plane off the deck when the carrier is stationary you probably will end up "in the drink"! You need a lighter weight combined with a good wind over the deck to get that vital airspeed up before the deck runs out! Tell the skipper "More revolutions, Admiral, or you'll have a mutiny on your hands!!" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Now here's the real reason for writing: I have been having a lot of trouble flying campaigns, both single and multi-player. The screen was getting down to ridiculous frame rates, so much so that I couldn't fly off any deck safely! Answer - uninstall the standalone PF from my PC! It seems that the NGen was being served from both the Standalone and the merged versions on board my machine and the poor little mite didn't know which way to turn!! Now all is sweetness and light! Thanks to USN Warrior for that one!

Try the links in this thread, as they are direct to Ubi:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/4721047273

Be sure you have the correct patches for the version of the game you have; the thread should help you get it straight.

Thats where i got the patches originally...... i have downloaded the patch several times from several different locations, and i still get the same error....
is this just 1 little file? can someone email this file to me?

Can you unpack it to an empty folder on your desktop? Maybe you have a 'read only' issue going on with your game folder. Try making a new folder on your desktop and then direct the patch's auto-installer to that folder. After that, copy all the files into your game folder.

Xoenn

tried that, put in a diff folder, same issue, its gotta be the installer.....
like iv said, ive dl it many times... same darn issue.. how big is this fb_3do09p.SFS
file? is it emailable or what?

thanks

I just downloaded from the link in the 'Patch it right' thread I posted. Then I unzipped to a desktop folder of my creation. All contents went to my New Folder successfully.

The file you want e-mailed to you is 25.6 Mb so it's not a 'little file.' Perhaps the problem is that the patch is unloading to temporary memory first as it unzips, and you don't have enough?

And just FYI ... after fb_3do09p.SFS you'll encounter fb_3do10p.SFS (38.3 Mb) and Files.SFS (17.2 Mb) in the same patch.

I dont think thats it, i got a gig of memory, i will try to download it yet again.....
