I started using the mods so I could fy the early B-25s, among others. I started an offline New Guinea campaign, although I have to change the J model to a G model in FMB before each mission because Dgen does not recognize what are supposed to be AI only planes.

To get to the point, I was tired of the fighter escorts taking care of all the Zekes and Oscars for us all the time because I like to hop in a gunner turret every now and then to do some defensive gunning to add to the immersion. And besides, despite the common misconception that AI gunners are good, they usually are not good enough when you're in a bomber, they don't help at all. You get killed if you try to depend on AI gunners, so better to do it yourself!!

Well, when I went into the FMB to change the B-25 to a G model before the mission, I decided to also up the odds I'd have to defend my bomber by jumping in as the gunner. In this particular mission, I reduced the two flights of four P-39s and four P-40s to only one flight consisting of only two P-40s. Then upped the Oscars from four to six. I figured surely the six Oscars would decimate two P-40Es.

Well guess again. By damn those two AI P-40 pilots took out all six Oscars with no damage at all and flew home with us. Can't win......those two AI escorts did their jobs!!

Well,

In TB-3 campaigns the enemy wipes out all the escorts and all the bombers.

I do remember shooting down Emils as the gunner in TB-3s, if you hit the engine, he's out of action after about 3 minutes!! But if you are in the TB-3 and have 190A4 on your butt, well, just spare yourself and bail before they get close.
