Nice news,

They're talking about an expension pack after the 1.3 patch...

May be some new features and the correction of the last bugs.

Before they sell me an expansion they€d better fix Silent Sonar III first€¦they€ve got moders out there working on some really cool stuff, unfortunately it€s not cross compatible between 1.2 and 1.3 and its really p*ssing people off. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I'd say they'll shortly release a 1.4 containing minor fixes and features - THEN get on with the expansion pack.

This is not an issue the developer will ever take into account.

Modders mod the game the developers produce, the developer does not produce patches based upon what modders produce or want. In fact, the developers don't use mods at all in their development and testing installations, so why should they care about some mods?

It is up to the modder to mod what is on offer within the new patch, and if some things no longer work the way they did, then that's life. Make some adjusted or entirely different mods then. But to get grouchy at the developer because a few mods are pooched by a patch of the official game ... there's lots wrong with that expectation. Any patch can have problems and I have not missed the sonar guy enunciating at all, I just check it and watch the message window and map and I get all the warnings I need until the guy gets over his laryngitis.

LOL, they basically admitted there were no beta testers! Gotta love it!

And it looks like they are hard at work on SH4, anyone else notice in the pics the book on the desk open showing information and pics on a US plane?

Hey, this Tiberius Lazar seems to be a friendly guy to me... plays Warhammer like me, and smokes the same cigarettes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My faith in the team has been renewed.

Strange, never seen them for sale in England. Should probably stop doing weekly shops online and go see the real world again.

Yes, but notice in my reply I snipped your comments about the sonar man out of the quote of your original post? I agree, the sonar man going mute is not something you want on the submarine, but as pointed out, it's not a game breaker by any means. I've done 15 patrols with 1.3 and have not once missed a new sonar contact, so it's all working as required, and so far I have installed maybe 60-70 mods from 1.2 into 1.3 and all have apparently worked with no problems. The only mods I have not installed are the ones with a different campaign, as I want to complete the standard one first.

Well, now you have too tell me how you do it!!!...I had 1.3 for a day or two, some of it I liked very much (improved AI) but I always had the feeling I was driving right past a juicy convoy.(hello! sonar! anybody down there?) Time compression is a must, simply not enough time to play€¦also if I have your attention, what€s the effective range of sonar in 40-45?...I€ve been laying down a 20.000 meter circle with the compass€¦it€s a noob question I know, I€ve been meaning to do a search on the net for an answer. Oh! And RUB 1.3 is ready over at subsim€¦I haven€t downloaded it yet cause, well, we know why! Some over there are working on reverse engineering it for 1.2 but I haven€t check on it in awile. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But I said this above:

"...I have not missed the sonar guy enunciating at all, I just check it [i.e. the sonar guy for contacts and bearings] and watch the message window and map and I get all the warnings I need until the guy gets over his laryngitis."

Effective passive sonar range?

There's no answer as far as I can see, as range is dependent on weather, your depth, the randomness of any thermal layer effects, and sonar type installed on your sub.

All of those are more or less variables, and so will be sonar range.
