View Full Version : If I get on your six online...

You don't have much to worry about as I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn.

I even tried to hit the Gulf of Finland on GG today and missed it completely.

If you find me on your six online, just do the most gentle maneuver you can think of and be sure that it will cause me to miss.I've got the Zoom part down, it's the Boom part I have problems with.

Or better yet, just continue to fly in a straight line and chances are 50/50 I will miss you anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As a fellow "couldn't hit a barn if it fell on me" kind of guy, let me give some shooting advice:

Practice offline against AI and record a track. When you view the track hit pause and hit F2 for the opponents perspective. You can see where your rounds are missing. Shot falling short? Too far ahead? Then you can at least gauge where you need to adjust your aim.

If I had to guess I would say its falling short. 99% of the shots I miss fall short. I was told "When you think you have enough deflection.... double it... THEN shoot. My problem is under the nose deflection shots. It's hard for me to bring the opponent in from the side in a tight TnB. Don't even how to ask me how to BnZ. I usually destry the target by running into it. And no, thats not how I got my name. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Yep, I usually record my online traks and try to learn from them.

Most of the time I just cringe at how much I miss http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I'm SO glad it's not just me

Mind you I'm still playing with keys (hopefully getting my bro's old joystick soon though) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Yep, almost the same with me. But I learned one thing, though. I shoot only when I am certain to hit. For a long time I was squeezing the trigger in hope of miraculous fatal hit on enemy. He he, needles to say, I always missed almost everything. So, now when going against experienced flyer with my D9, at least half of the B&Z tries end up without shooting.

I have no problem with deflection shots off-line, but its a different story when i fly on-line.
I dont know if its lag causing me to shoot to late or that the view is less stable causing me to do more flight corrections. I often find myself in a prime kill position but somehow i miss.
To make matters worse the shots that do find the target seem less effective. (what is happening?)

Same here mostly.

I think the biggest problem is that I don't have a lot of time to fly online.

I am probably safer from the enemies POV, when I'm high 6 o clock too, I actually prefer them to be on my 6, then map depending, I aim for a big hill and hope they fly into it (or a bridge or another plane). It might nor have been accepted practice during WW2, but then again, I'd be too drunk to fly and too much of a coward for the infantry http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

RedNeckerson.... don't feel bad. I'm the same as you. And possibly there are more of us around than might like to admit it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It a whole different ballgame flying online. Even the AI is pretty safe when I'm behind them. LOL

I will stand up & be countedhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifits all in my sig. I fly bombers or IL2's all the time now.

Yeah, my handle FW190fan got swallowed by the forum and I can't seem to get it reactivated.

Well, I've been in IL2 since about a month after the original release...and if you put me in a fighter, I have to run to the Supply Office and sign my virtual life-insurance policy. Absolutely useless in them, but for target practice.

Bombers are another story. Juss my cup o' tea I guess.

Yep, I'm doing good to hit 1% http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

On a good day I hit 3%.

I fly the Focke and usually in full "zoom-out" view. Try to zoom in when I can. Even a shot from dead six is almost a deflection shot in the 190.

Guys I fly with in JG/77 hit really well with it though. I think it just takes a lot of time.

Great advice, Crash.

People think they're pulling enough deflection when they actually aren't. If you're missing your target, then pull MORE deflection... Often times you need more deflection than you thought you needed, even after correcting.

Also having a big joystick problem right now.

My MS stick is broken and my Logitech Extreme...well let's just say I wont buy another Logitech stick again.

I currently have no right-rudder input and my roll-rate to the right is only 25% of what it should be.

So here's a hint if you are chasing me online I can't really roll right because of my Logitech crappy stick http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If I'm chasing you just roll right a lot and I'll get mad and stop chasing you http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

My online kill-list so far:

-AI He 111 gunner shot down La-5F
-P-40 with Ju 87B-2 rear gun
-P-40 I rammed with Ju-87B-2
-head on collission with an IL-2 in Ju 87D-3
-2 EAs with Bf 110G-2 rear guns
-F4F with D3A1 rear gun.

And finally, the one I'm most proud of:

B&Zed and unsuspecting Bf 109 with P-47D-27!

Well, 9 out of 10 times I end up being other folks high-scores http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My first online kill was a P-38 on the 92nd server.

My second was a P-51 on either WC or GG I can't remember.

The first person to shoot me down online was JG/77 Faustnik http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'll get Faust back one of these days http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In that case you can practice on me because I won't notice you(I can't see sh*t without icons).
Oh and if you ever see a friendly plane going down on you really fast just say: Brain don't shoot we play on the same side! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Dont let Crash fool you...his rounds fly like laserbeams http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I use 200meter convergance for both cannon and guns. I been using it or 250 for a couple years now. I was stuck on 300 for a long time till the P-47 first appeared. I all most always fly US planes. Sometimes I fly the FW-190 and 200 convergance is where its at for me.
In the Wildcat while flying on Zeke_vs_Wildcat server I can average about 10% air to air. The best I ever got was 16% (atleast the times I have checked) I wont say how many kills I had. But I will tell you that with the Wildcat if you can maintain 10% you can down 7 planes in a single sortie (Jap planes atleast) The kills go higher with the JUG and extra ammo.
