View Full Version : Authentic WWII Symbols in SH3 - Legal Issues?

I was wondering if we are going to have authentic WWII symbols in SH3, or are we restricted again due to German laws banning such symbols? I know it is a minor thing, but it is an historical simulation and I am somewhat dumbfounded when "Das Boot", a historical action drama, can have them and appear in mini-series in what was then West Germany, but we can't have them in a historical simulation. Again very minor point, but I was just wondering.

Most probably, symbols will be there. If you didn't realised, two trailers of E3 (don't remember if it was the one from E3) were released. One had symbols censored, the other one not. The first was intended for a german public, the second one was for the rest of the world. So, guess...

Thank you RedTerex for the reference to previous posts.

I wanted to add that I can certainly understand why some people would not want to have Nazi symbols in SH3 and I respect Drebbel's opinion on that topic.

I agree with the following suggestions in this area.

1) Naturally it should be censored in counries where that symbol is illegal.

2) There should be an optional option to turn on/off the Nazi Symbols or to replace them with WWI German Symbols as some other WWII games do.

Finally as a thought from myself:

Isn't am historical simulation, even as a computer game, in some way, a "history lesson?" I know that the German legislators have ruled differently, but I am amazed at how far computers have come.

I live near Chicago and have visited the U505 many times started as a kid. I am really excited to get a closer feel to what it was like to be in one after seeing the nice interior work the DEVS are doing for SH3.

PS Does anybody know of any US Subs near Chicago or near IL? Thanks.

Peace!
