If you're talking offline, hit Tab, select 8 (Ground Control) and 3 (Request Landing Clearance).

I THINK that's right...can't check right now, not at the comp with IL-2 on it

That's the right sequence. If you've turned off the AI chatter and subtitles you wont see the response though.

Offline, my advice is to request permission to land before your flight leader if you are not leader, then land well before your flight, or those guys will try to land ON you. I can't recall how many times I have been given permission to land when it wasn't a good idea to.
