Still new to the game. I've seen the option. Don't know what to do with it. Thanks!

Press f4 when an enemy is in sight. Make sure that you have the "no padlock" option turned off in your difficulty menu. Your vision will follow the enemy till it gets out of sight for 2 seconds, then you will lose your lock.

Enjoy,

I use it occasionally. Usually I just use the mouse to track with. (Don't have a stick w/hatswitch yet.)

F4 is the enemy padlock key. When you see an enemy a/c hit F4 and a triangle will appear around the plane while your view will pan along with the a/c. It's useful for keeping track of where they are however, your vision will not track to your six, only to the limit of your view from in-cockpit. (5 or 7 o'clock). It will track under your nose (a little unrealistic IMO) or over the cockpit until it gets toward the tail of your plane where the padlock will release and snap back to your forward view.

Some people like it, some don't.
Some use their hatswitch or mouse to track in real time.
Some use Track IR.

Oleg put it in the game as an aid in tracking for realism. Most 'Full Real' servers disable it.

I believe F5 is friendly padlock. That would be useful for formation flying.

Give it a try and decide for yourself.
