Hopefully, casualty numbers.

An old WWII transport pilot buddy of mine has developed an interest in this and I thought I'd ask some of you guys. I've been unable to locate the numbers by doing a google search of the english speaking websites.

Thanks in advance,

Casualty references for the 588th NBAP/46th Taman Guards Bomber regiment would be scarce, if they exist at all. I would say the casualty rate was the same as any other night bomber unit, but I could be wrong. I can, however, give you plenty of other info on them....

They flew the PO-2 for night attacks. I found a lot of stuff about them by doing a google search. I got a bunch of pics I took of a PO-2 if you want them.

Woofiedog, those are good references, but in the mention of the Night Witches, the 46th Taman Guards bomber regiment is specifically mentioned. I've been working a campaign for them.

While the American WASP group were female flyers during the war, they did not see combat, and were not intended to, which makes them entirely different. The group of the 586 IAP, 125th GvBAP, and the 46th GvNBAP were all female combat units, though the 46th was the only that was entirely female. The 586 had one small division of men, and the 587 mainly used men as gunners for their Pe-2 aircraft.

Willie, please E-mail me at boosh at kbuch.com. I'll send you what I have on them. Also, if you'd like, you can IM me. Just ask me in e-mail what my IM name is and I'll give it to you.
