Well, I was flying the A4, against 4 veteran field mod Il-2 AI (with RAF markings...I forgot to switch back to USSR). I had randomly selected the gas cartridges as their payload.

Here's what happened:

First, I dove under one to aim for its oil cooler. My wingman, shot the other Il-2 next to me, which dove right and unleashed its payload, I was inevitably going towards it...(see arrow)

My plane took a beating as it left the hail of cartridges...to my dismay, my engine had gulped one of those, and had quit on me... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Now here comes the cool part...all of a sudden, my plane started to emit the gas!! I believe one had either gotten lodged in the engine...luckily, my pilot wasnt affected by the gasses! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Here's a damage assesment of those cartridges as they pounded against my plane...(shot taken between two puffs)

Sweet! I knew those canisters emitted gas, but I never knew they could do that to a plane before!

Heck, my plane emits green gas every time I fart in the cockpit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

All jokes aside though, that pretty cool!

That's what I've always really liked about this sim, there's something new to find all the time.

Thanks for sharing Haigotron.

ur welcome, agreed with your post there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

its goes to show that the FM and other physical code theyve created are still subject to unpredictable events which can also occur in RL http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and it plays through in a logical manner http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif awesome game

watching the track again...if anyone wants me to post it, ill be happy to http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

After 2 years or so of constant flight offline I really thought I`d seen everything IL2 had to offer, but that IS a new one. wow.

This sim continues to surprise me. I didn`t even know gas existed in the game!

You'd better fly the next 1000 sorties in Yak's or your cursed to never complete another successful sortie. That wasn't just gas, but Soviet Green Pixel dust, made from the ashes of Lenin himself. If you don't fly for the motherland, that dust will draw green magic rounds into your vitals every time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Wow...I've seen the canisters go off many a time on the ground but I've NEVER seen anything like that happen. Thats truly a spectacle. Kudos for recording it and posting the screen shots!

I thought Lenin was out of favour during the Stalinist era ?

Er, I've never used this weapon with the IL-2---which one is it?

I am speechless.
But you know, it seems better to take a gas canister into the engine, than a 250 kg bomb... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
So how did you "smell" after the crash landing? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Those are PTAB bombs. They're anti-armor.

Ah, but Lenin wasn't cremated. He is embalmed and on display like a gruesome party favor in Moscow's Red Square.

We tried every darn weapon for vulching. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry! I must correct myself! Those bomblets are not PTAB's, they're AJ-2 cassetes.

well caught http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif as mentioned,it's so cool that this sim keeps throwing out out little details after so long, there always seems to be something 'new' popping up.

you sure them 'mini-bomb' thingies aren't the A-10(?) bomblet things?

Rev

I'm quite sure. The AJ-2's create the smoke, not sure if the AO-10's do.

I would love to, but i have converted the original TRK to a NTRK, the primary yellow/purple burst is clearly visible, but the puffs seem to appear sometimes when i play the NTRK back, while other times it doesnt.

I will shortly upload it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This has got me thinking about why the gas is green the reason being I've seen green fumes when I was an apprentice. My boss used to wipe nitric acid on the dirty copper fittings from old pianos to clean them up and this would create a thick terrible smelling fluoro green and/or orange gas. TBO I think my memory is a little confused, maybe it wasn't green at all but instead was orange as it is 20 years ago now.
