Wow, just flew for the first time , after countless hours in a P-51, FW190, ME109e,f,g and Zero , and I absolutely love the P-47. It just goes when it has to , turns fairly good and lots of fire power (gotta love the extra ammo).

Just wanted to know if anyone had similar thoughts on the P-47?

I dont think (and hope) you will get flamed at all for the Jug...except maybe about saying it turns well, hehe

It used to be a hopeless case, but now the 50s are fixed, the D27 gets the extra HP it didnt before, and it can actually dive and pull away from anything else, which it should have all along....plus it's king at alt.....my fav ride

But laud it too much, or everyone else will want one! (lol as if! ....lettem keep the Las and Kis, hehe)

Out of all the planes in this sim I find the Jug most rewarding. Its a great fighter, a great ground pounder. I think 2 Jugs working together is just about the most deadly combination in this sim...until we get the Tempest. Jug and Tempest combo will be awesome!

i love it, specially on objectives dogfights, even more so against ships- once you get the hang of skip bombing you can make a strong contribution to winning the game for the team- just climb before you go on the bomb run, flank around and approach the target from behind enemy lines, fast, at altitude. dive, bomb, climb and run for home at full power, nothing can touch you, specially if theres little friends around keeping the yellow nosed b*stards at bay.

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to greater danger. It works the same in any country."

IMO the 2,04 Jug is the best one thus far and closest to the performance I have read about. In FB 1.0 the Jug was porked (rolled way too slow, high alt performance was terrible, flew too slow and the guns were weak) and the Mustang was actually closest to its real performance IMO. Before that I would be eaten alive up high...... now as I am learning how to use the plane my survivability in air to air is way up. As far as turning goes..... if you keep up your speed and use flaps, trim and gravity to your advantage youd be surprise at how well the Jug can turn.

Glad you like ur new ride! Bit of unsolicited sales pitching. If you like the Jug, try the Lightning a bit. Offers alot of what the Jug has (worse high alt performance though), and does better, IMHO, down low. You can actually stall fight in a Lightning, as big as it is.

Have fun in the Jug!

I wont fly anything else but my Republic baby now, unless the given planeset in the server doesnt have it...

Every time I take off in it, I am confident I will RTB with kills under my belt, and no ammo, or, at least, RTB at all, even if in rough shape

The best offence vs a Jug now is vulching.....

The glass jaw engine doesnt occur nearly so much anymore, which is nice, as is the lack of the old tendancy to erupt into flame with the slightest hit...

Hell, in RL Jugs used to RTB completely missing whole cylinders (also called jugs, themselves) wither by enemy action damage, or even rare cases of detonation...

That safeness you love so much is why many p47 pilots didn't switch to the p51 - rugged, built tough.

I like the late model - more power and better visibility - the razorbacks are tough to see out of.

I went to the air force museum last weekend (Dayton, OH) - and the p47 (And p51) have great visibility - plenty of cockpit room, etc.. The 190 and 109 - they had tiny cockpits - it doesn't surprise me now why the frames are modelled like they are.

What I like best about the Jug is that, since its dive, roll, and high alt performance have been corrected in v2.04, it has been possible to demonstrate and prove the tactical validity of the design concept. The Jug has proven that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

No, it's about 1000 cubic inches larger; 2800 CID vs the 1820 CID of the Cyclone in the B-17.

if you ever get the chance....Stand behind a P-47D when they fire one up. It'll damn near knock you off your feet. I was 25 to 20 yards away when they fired up the "Tar Heel Hal" P-47D-40 at Wings of Freedom in July. What an awsome sight. the P-47/F-86/F-16 Flyby in formations was too cool.

When I see a P47, I see this:

Boot ugly, but effective.

The caveat on the latter point being only if flown correctly.
