When a plane sim (better a WWII one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) has terrain like this I'll be happy (and I'm not asking for super-graphics like HL2 or CoD2), "only" this, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/crossracingchampionship/screens.html?page=87

or this

You can see the rest of screens there... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Maybe someone could program for the double Xeon stations?

sniff, I know too much time is needed before they try something near a that. If they even try it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

P.D. Of course there are other areas in a sim, more airplane related, that must be improved...

I've always fantasized about the ability to combine a tank sim, an FPS, a flight sim, and a RTS.

All elements would be controlled by human players - basically, imagine an MMORPG IL2 style. That would be crazy cool.

Hi Aces!

Yep put me in the same boat, in 10 year we will have the processing power....but who knows if we will have the titles!

It is called an OperationFlashpoint it is out for a looong time and it is stil cool.

Online, many RTS mods appeared, like MfCTI or crCTI...it is a lot of fun.
The graphics is not fancy, the net-code sucks (IL2 COOP style only,no joining into an existing session) but still it is a great game. Check it.

I was about to mention Flashpoint. Flying in that game looks the closest to real life flying. Unfortunately, it is a lousy flight simulator, as the planes were an afterthought. It is primarily an infantry simulator, and a very realistic one with the exception of the aiming and some other assorted issues.

To put such detail into a flight sim will require better cpu's and gpu's than our current crop. I don't think it is going to take 10 years to get there, the physics chip graphics cards are already in development and these will once again make the cpu the bottle neck, of course dual core cpu's are coming out now, so that might open up more possibilities.

this sim can easiliy handle that with map texture updates, slightly higher map mesh polys, scenery models, and trees scaled accurately etc.

have roads runways etc a part of the map texture instead of some glitching unflat surface item which is a complete waste of polygons for nothing and a useless burden on steamlining the game, trainstations railroadline etc should all be a part of the map texture with a mdl object building placed near the map texture

all this can be done now for the same fps hit we experience now.

Those trees are about 12 polys the trees we have in game are much much higher and look pretty **** bad.

We would just need a fmb that allowed us to change the x y axis of ground objects to put on slanted surfaces similiar to novalogics great easy to use map editing software.

Selecting a group of fmb objects in a sqaure and being able to cut and paste them to another part of the map would make mission building so much quicker and make map producing 1000 times easier.

I thought of Operation Flashpoint as well ... I used to be hardcore into that game. Good action game, yes, simulator, hell no. The "fog of war" was about 1km in circumference... good at groudn level but made flying the crappy planes even harder. The helicopters were fun but not very realistic.

I meant uber-realistic overarching simulation.

Dual SLI GPUs, CPUs and a PPU with a APU like soundstorm or Audigy and it could be done today.

I have always thought this was a good idea, and people are right Operation Flash Point has made the best go of this yet.

What I think would be a good idea is rather than have one product that tries to be everything(flight sim, tank sim, FPS) is have a series of games that all share a common architecture and playing area. You could then make the level of graphics detail scalable as appropriate to the environment
