Sorry everyone for that. I really was just curious as to why they didnt seem to do that well during WW2. Nothing more. I certainly didnt expect whatever that turned into/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif . At least I have learned not to ask questions like that around here./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif S~

PS. Just a little apology, not trying to start it up again, so leave the flamethrowers at the door please.

Well it made for interesting reading anyway.
/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

My Italian friends at work spent the rest of the day talking about it, after I showed it to them.

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

There was nothing offensive in what you asked Dosiere. It could have been an interesting discussion ad partly it was anyway. The problem of that thread and of others like that is just that some posting people doesn't see the difference between an analysis - as criticizing as it can be - and a stupid generalizing offense.
Arrogance and ignorance put together are always a nasty mix.

I haven't looked up the thread yet, but I suspect it turned into the kind of slug-fest I predicted. For some reason it seems impossible for people to discuss the martial history of nations without bashing each other and flaunt their ignorance.

Thats quite ok,
you asked a valid question, so I tried to answer you with living Human history.
Heres a link as to the reason Why there would never be a return to the Rome of Old, as a conquering armed force.

I though it was because the Italians had no moraal, hated their officers, and Mussilini never invested in technology.

I've heard the Italian troops fought very well....under German officers.

Here is some stuff I found looking into things on the internet. Not much, I think i will go to Borders and pick up a book tomorrow. The posters I found very interesting. Many seemed to show what would happen if Italy lost. Scary stuff I suppose if you were the Italian looking at these things.

Here's a couple of two more good links if you're interested Dosiere.

The first is about Italy at WW2 in general

http://www.comandosupremo.com/index.shtml

the second is dedicated to the Italian Air Forces in WW2.
