Come on, we all know that we dont care about complex fm's, and torpedo's being modeled correctly. We want aircraft carriers that can fly...you know it as much as i do, Flanker 2.5 had them, i want them for PF...FLYABLE CARRIERS NOW!!!

im thinking youd need at least 4 warp nacelles to get an aircraft carrier flying. and a huge impulse engine to get it off the ground.....

ha you're all wrong! GREEN BAY RULES!!!
but in all actuality, i think a I-16 FM would model the carriers flight characteristics best. I mean the 109 is under powered, and i'd prefer a German company model the carrier, since we all know Oleg and company are biased towards the Allies... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

LOL! Star Blazers was great. One of my favorites.

And, this is sorta on topic, because that's the Yamato. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Known in Japanese as "Uchuu Senkan Yamato", and strangely mis translated as "Space Cruiser Yamato", the Argo was the first Earth ship able to travel faster than light. Built from the wreckage of the World War II Japanese battleship, Yamato, the Argo is the pride of the Earth Defense Fleet. Length = 265.8 metres, width = 34.6 metres, height = 77 metres.

Its primary weapons are its main shock cannons and its great Wave Motion Gun. Also in its battery are a complement of anti-missile missiles, bow and aft torpedo launch ports, side assault missiles, stack missiles, Wave Motion cartridge guns, anti-aircraftpulse-laser cannons, anti-missile screen gun, asteroid polarity shield, reflectorforce-field, sub-space "sonar", time radar, and the Black Tiger fighter squadron.

In 2202, for Be Forever Yamato, a white anchor logo was painted on the Argo's bow andsides. Also, three white stripes were painted on the ends of its main gun muzzles. ForFinal Yamato, the anchor logos were removed.

Yeah boy, El!!! That's exactly what we need. I've been asking for that for a long time now. That would be the ultimate in bad ***, hooking up with and launching from, a Zepp. (with an accurate FM you smart-asses. Save the CS comments. :P lol)

ARSNL - Star Blazers kicks rocks! Even today. Unlike Speedracer and Voltron, Star Blazers holds up and continues to be enjoyable.

The changes from the original Yamato (Uchuu Senkan Yamato) were slight, the story is almost entirely intact. And a timeless classic.

Pick up the DVDs and you'll see what I mean. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

To this day it is still my all time favorite.....and if you saw the amount of Anime I have on DVD and VHS you'd realize, that's really saying something. lol

The thing that was great about Uchyu Senkan Yamato (aka Starblazers) was that the creator Matsumoto Reiji made a deliberate effort to parallel Uchyu Senkan Yamato's fate with the real-life Yamato.

In Starblazers, they send out Yamato as the last hope, when an impending invasion renders defenses powerless. Then you see the Yamato get ripped to shreds as it plunges itself headfirst into a suicidal attempt at turning the odds. Captain dies, and in different variants of movies and TV shows the Yamato gets obliterated.

In the original Uchyu Senkan Yamato movie, the ship gets destroyed, but they released a different "brighter" version due to sentiment that it was too sad.

Matsumoto was just the lead animator (or animation director). He was not the writer or director. That was Yoshinubu Nishizaki.

Nishizaki was bankrupt and arrested a few years back, and Matsumoto bought the rights to the entire Yamato franchise, including Star Blazers, and he also owns the company that is distributing SB in the states.

In Yamato, the US planes get Galman (Gamilon) music played while they sink the ship, and US soldiers are seen saluting it as it went down. As if.... Nevermind the fact that it was bombed to death and would be in too many pieces to turn into what they turned it into. lol But we can give them some slack for fictions sake. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The first season came first. The first movie was little more than an edit of the season. The second movie came next and included a sucky ending that pissed fans off so much that Nishizaki was burned in effigy. They then released the second TV season and re-wrote the ending.

The third SB season, The Bolar Wars, wasn't directly connected to the second and was produced much later on with a different (and suck a$$) voice cast and different translators/writers and so didn't make much sense (when taken in concert with 1 & 2).

Much of the drama of later movies, like Alex's Daughter, Sasha, Dessloks change of heart (ala Darth Vader) and so on, were missed by SB fans unfortunately.

Final Yamato sucked. Point blank. Good overall up till the end, but, that ending should never have been written. Plus....the whole Okita (Avatar) thing made no sense either.

A few years back, after Matsumoto bought the rights, he was at a convention and announced a new movie and stated that this time, nobody would die. Which is as it should be (well, speaking of the main cast...... heh heh)

I'd like to get my hands on some 2520. Have a model of the ship, but that's all I've been able to get.

I believe the Yamato wreck split into two, and the main guns fell off, and think the island detached a bit. But it wasn't an unrecognizable wreck.

Basically what I was getting at. If it was just torp'd and sent down.....maybe they could pull it off. However, if we also take time into account....it went down in what 44, 45? (forget), and it was "recommissioned" in 2199? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Was it subbed? All the movies I have (Yamato movies), except #2, Arrierverderci Yamato (I know I mangled that. lol), are subbed. That exception was dubbed and they used the SB names but with a different voice cast. Very odd. Though better than the Speed Racer cast of Season 3.

In fact, Yamato and Otaku no Video are the only things I'd be willing to suffer through subbed. Everything else is dubbed or I won't buy it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Fortunately, with the exception of Animeigo's god awful decicion of going sub only, much of what comes out on DVD is both.

I must admit that I am a bit apprehensive about 2520 after the steaming pile of **** that BGC 2040 turned out to be. Sometimes classics should just be left alone.

The Yamato 2520 wasn't subbed, I watched it in Japanese. Dunno if they have a subbed version, wouldn't be surprised if they didn't since it ended so quickly. First episode was kinda cool, later ones got worse and worse.

Awesome, thanks for that link Taylortony.

As for Star Destroyers (wow this topics really going off course), the Executor class SSD is one of the coolest ships, but you gotta admit it's also one of the weakest for its size.

A bunch of little fighters blow up the shield generator, and one A-wing crashing into the bridge sends the whole ship careening into the Death Star's gravitional pull.

I mean the USS Franklin got smacked by a Kamikaze attack to the bridge (not to mention many other hits) and still stayed afloat. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

lol Which way is up in space? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

A water based ship could stay afloat while also being adrift without any means of control. Plus the drag of the water would slow it down.

The SSD was in close proximity to something large enough to have a noticable gravity field of it's own and without any means of control was pulled and/or drifted into it. Plus, maybe one of the bridge crew tensed up and firewalled it just before he bought it. lol http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You would think that with a ship that's a couple miles long that the bridge would be able to take a single fighter hit. No auxillary controls? No emergency automatic evasive maneuvering?

Then again, I attribute the demise of the Empire to George Lucas' deteriorating directing skills http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Ewoks beating up storm troopers, bleh. And if the Rebels could win against the Empire in a full frontal naval assault, why didn't they do that from day one? The Death Star even had a couple of Mon Calamari cruisers knocked out before it blew up, the fact that they can win in a direct ambush shows that they shouldn've been hiding and just attack the Empire from Episode IV.

They should have TIE fighters in PF though. That way when people cry about UFOs in servers they'd actually be right http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
