S! all.

I upgraded my DirectX to the latest version (10/04/2007) and experienced a clear increase in framerates AND a significant reduction in lockups and freezes too! The BlackDeath track gives me an average of 50 FPS w/ no freezes to mention of now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'm using a POS PIV 2.4GHz / Radeon 9250 / 1GB of RAM setup here, so it's not exactly the bleeding edge we're talking about here...

YMMV of course, but helped me.

And I just had my 9200SE (128MB) card taken out. I'm curious what effect the update would have had on it.

D'ya use OpenGL or DirectX in game?

I'm using OpenGL as recommended...

didn't think updating directx would increase framerate in OpenGL...

Though, come to think of it, sound is still directx, and often the cause for stutters...
Will try as well...

Not necessarily directly, and the pure framerate increase wasn't _that_ great, but the stutters and freezes lessened a lot nevertheless. But yeah, as you yourself said the gain probably comes from the other subsystems managed by it, and it may also be that some higher level I/O operations (or something - just rambling here) benefit from the upgrade. But I'm just guessing, that's all...

Something good did happen at any rate, that I'm sure of. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
