View Full Version : Petition to make 4.0 open beta

Hi, Oleg!

As far as I understand it the new version 4.0 is a huge projekt, in some sense bigger in scale than FB or the AEP.

The way it is now, I think people expecting the patch to be perfect after such a long time in development, but I also think that it simply can't be perfect at first try because of the complexity of the software and the amount of changes.

So wouldn't it be wise to open the patch for the help of the community?

Best regards,

Frog

I disagree .... sometimes to many cooks spoil the soup ....

Could you just imagine the comments and Pall Mall answers that would come from this .... just look at this forum! .... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Obviously there is a reason why Oleg gives bugfixes and new ideas to public and not this particular upgrade.

With all the new fans brought aboard by PF, we can't risk another episode like that "timebomb" on the open patch beta that took effect at Dec. 1 one year. Wading through that mess was an experience ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

When Oleg thinks that beta test should involve more people, he makes it public, just like it was in 301 and 302.

You are free to test when 4.0 is out .)

I agree with you disagreeing.

BTW whats a Pall Mall answer? Did you mean a pell mell answer. Not being funny or anything just wondering. Its pell mell as in a confusing situation; used by Nelson iirc to describe his preferred method of attack where his sailors superior seamanship would be a deciding factor in a battle. But I digress..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/353.gif

don't worry, methinks it will be, an open beta, sort of... once 4.0 is out, you can consider it as "partial open beta" for BoB http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

at least, that's the way it looks to me... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

All good programs and flight sims are €œbeta€, i.e. they develop. However I disagree with the idea of an open beta since it would invite all to express their opinion and that is quite a can of worms to open.

Edit. TooCool is right. (Sorry, did'nt read your post)

If I am not wrong we are going to test BOB's FM when 4.0 is released.

Let's then provide the devs constructive opinions and info and we will help them to improve both FB/AEP/PF and BOB.

IMO the release of the 4.0 will be the beta for the next generation sim.
I defenitly beleive that FB will be a beta for BOB and i'm shure it is already and was before with the apparitions of the free addons and cockpits etc...
Oleg or his team are in contact with the community for this raisons and stay in touch with everything ( great move )
All construted critics, scourses and infos are shurly welcome IMO.

Now Daddy Oleg lets talk about the yak's miss conceptions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Waiting to Play is not the same as waiting to be Beta Tester. Everybody in this thread could have arranged to be Beta Tester long ago, but we were busy playing, and we slipped up.

So, we see nobody here wants to Open Beta Test, but Play openly with New FM. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I say this because we must offer ourselves something less sloganistic than Ice is just a FanBoy (although this is very True, because, after all, FB = FanBoy).

Whats wrong with being a fanboy? Besides.. thats FanMAN to you dude.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Seriously...... Sure we all have been waiting..... but I think Oleg knows what he is doing.. and if the past is any clue I would do it the same way. The reason why he doesnt post here as much as he used to is because of all the BS and the ********s who have no respect and always see any glass not over flowing as partly empty... as opposed to mostly full. FB was released in March I believe... the first patch was supposed to be out in April.. we got it in June..... now it's old news and we are waiting for this patch... it will get here when it does. In the mean time I just maximize my enjoyment of what I have. There are enough 3rd party utilities and features built into the sim to keep all of us morte than busy till this expected patch makes it's apearance, I gues you will have to suck it up like all the rest of us including the originator of this post because all the petitioning, name calling and complaining in the world wont change a thing. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Then I'm the biggest fanboy you've ever met.

No really, I have an understanding of development process for software and thats guiding my thoughts here. I've done things like MOD releases too. Some companies tend to rush things and they screw up and there's lots of complaints. Whenever I'm involved, I'd rather it take a while more and they spend the time to check it over. Thats not fanboyism...thats common sense and the potential difference between a good product and a product that stinks.

The trouble is that people are yelling over why isn't the patch here, why don't we have this, etc etc etc. This is not the first post on it...it probably won't be the last. But its getting to the point where why should the developer give us anything for free? Because we deserve it? Only because our standards are set so high do we think that. Games have been released with far less than Pacific Fighters brings to the table.

So as far as I'm concerned, everything that we got after 3.0 was gravey. I hope we keep getting gravey because I like it....but if 3 extra weeks of testing means less bugs and means that we get a couple more flyables then I'm willing to wait.

Society has far too much of the "I want things five minutes ago" variety. Chill...sit back, do something else. Me, I'm burried in work for my last few weeks of university. Then I'm going drinking for a while http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Besides, a rushed product won't be much good.

These guys who want the beta, I have a feeling they're not nearly up to doing the work
of a beta tester. I'm just as sure they find any one thing, they'll post it to death.

Only the most popular Dogfight planes would get "beta tested." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

sinhq has hints about MiG~3 under New FM. I wonder what I~16 will be like.

Let me first start by saying that I am not for the public beta test but I do think that Oleg should hussel up on this patch. These forums are becoming very slow. Obviously these forums are populated by the hard core fans for the most part and when they stop coming around you know you have a problem.

Over the past four years, one of the biggest selling points for this product was support from the development team. I think up until PF they had done a terrific job. I've gladly purchased every product that has been released in this series and look forward to Oleg's future products but I worry that so many people who were first introduced to the il2 series with PF may not feel this way.

The Pacific appeals to many people in the United States which I'm willing to bet is the largest market for the il2 series outside of Russia. Its where this country arguably did some of its hardest fighting and had quite a few of its greatest heroes, especially in the air. I personally knew three new players that were holding out for a pacific product. After hearing about the great support and that they could finally give up CFS2 they quickly bought it up. I'd say that of the three, two were very disappointed with the release.

There has been no major patch for PF and it has been out for a while now. I can see a lot of people becoming fed up with this "its done when its done" mentality, especially with no regular updates or new information.

I'm not really excited for the next patch, I think this massive overhaul of the FM has the potential to turn this game FUBAR in a flash but I whish Oleg would do something soon because I have a feeling he's losing customers.

Betas can cause issues and anomalies that can corrupt OS. You can get a *.dll file with a little quirk that can blue screen you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I'd rather wait than mess with OS problems, or worse. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Betas really need to be treated carefully. When Oleg puts out a Beta for general user testing you can bet it's just about a done deal. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Go for a ride or walk the dog, you'll feel better. If that doesn't help, take two Aspirin drink a lot of fluids and check back on Monday, eh. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Not to mention that outside Russia, UBI has something to say about releases.
Even after 1C is done, there is still that UBI has to go over it and that's two more
weeks minimum right there.

How long you been here Big Bear? Remember the summer of 2003? LOL!

I've been here since day one. I actually tried my hardest to get in on the original beta testing but my computer wasn't really up to snuff at the time to get the most out of the game. I do remember that summer but I think this time its different. Oleg had a great oppotunity to pick up all sorts of new fans with PF. Now PF seems almost abandoned. Sure you need it to make use of new patches but very little of the new content has anything to do with the Pacific. There has been no major patches for this game to get any of the new players excited and if a player just bought PF I could see them being very dissapointed.

Not only new flyers but some American flyers too. I wonder if that will spill into the next sim like BOB, lost of sales.

Ya, FB engine is perfect for Pacific--the PF planes and cockpits are sweet, the carriers work great, and Normanby Island on New Guinea map shows how to make simple 1000km wide jungle island archipelago maps instead of trying to re~create the classical FB European environment. PF is potentially the Masterpiece of the IL~2 series--FB seems to be the best WW2 combat flight sim engine out there right now.
