My laptop looks good for it. Provided we get ourselves a few planes and good mission builder, count me in!

As you may know, Boosher, there is some doubt about both of those (if by "a few planes" you mean "more than two"). Lately, though, there's cause for optimism re: the mission builder. There's been a lot of discussion on that subject over at Simhq.

"Pilots will lift their planes with various tasks: updating artillery fire, investigation, support and interception of bombers...."

At last, a flight sim developer who can stretch their mind to something other than the same generic mission goals. Luthier is in charge of that sort of thing for SoW. I wonder if he has the smarts to go one better.

Like being on recon and actually catching a major troop move in progress?
Or would that be 'investigation'?

Awww, c'mon! What's the go one better?

Finally time to think about upgrading.

Aye. The pot of money I was saving (currently £1500 and counting) labelled 'SoW computer' suddenly became 'RoF computer'.

I am concerned for SoW's single player experience. I don't feel confident that Luthier will be able to deliver much on that score. I so want to be wrong about that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Will this game have a dynamic campaign option and different aces that you can challenge (and can challenge) you, like in the old KoTS on the Amiga?

Feathered_IV

The website says yes.

M_Gunz

If they leave a system with the right 'software hooks' then they'll have community developing
and refining added value for years after release.

We have a lot with IL2 but no way I know of for a dynamic tool to be user-interactive.

If the mission generator could tell the flight engine to let go of the screen and keys, like
'go away for a while' then it could do things like customize some html and run it on a browser
which would open up all kinds of community input without needing a lot of custom display and
I/O with limits that might bring. When that's done it's time to load and run the next, such
a thing could work even over the net -- lobby could be ready room, bar, hanger even.

I know, but IIRC we have seen more than just two cockpits. Remember when they released the videos of the Nieuport flying around? We got to see cockpit views then. They released the Dr.I as a package for FS9 and X, and we now have the SPADs and the Fokker D.VII. We are definitely spoiled because of IL-2, and I'm not expecting hundreds of flyable aircraft, or even dozens, right off the bat. Keep in mind that previous sims rarely gave more than one aircraft in decent quality. I'm looking for a good time. If I think I can get it, then I'll go for it.

BTW- if we're lucky - water may actually have shallow depth:

If CoreDuo is required, then it leaves us XP Home users out of game. It only can manage one processor.

Well that would count me out but then my PC is well overdue for a replacement anyway, I've just be waiting for a reason to upgrade. This game and Storm of War are the only things in the pipeline that will make me splash out on new hardware if they meet expectations.

I should think SoW will have very similar specs.

general_kalle
09-01-2008, 08:33 AM
it says Game represents 4 parts of the conflict, namely England, Germany, France and the USA.
which makes me think at least 4 planes, one for each counrty, wouldn't that make sense? otherwise they wouldn't write that.

England France and USA all operated the Spad, so that'll likely be the one Allied aircraft flyable initially. That one and the DVII are the most uber for the casual buyer. Probably the more colourful and twitchy types will be in the paid expansions.

Nice, I hope it is as much fun as the old Sierra Red Baron....didn't see anything about a release date though...I've upgraded like twice already waiting for SOW and this one....kind of looks like ROF will be the first to hit home. I'm really looking forward to it.

Well...

Neither my graphics card nor my processor meet the minimum spec.

*sigh*

Guess I'll wait on this till after SOW is released.

BTW, earlier dev updates showed far more than 2 aircraft types.

What they should do is have the 3D model of your aircraft sitting in a field, unpainted, then give the player paint options (brush sizes, colur, etc) and just let him paint over the aircraft like a real painter would`ve done in reality.

I find all that opening the skin in IL2 and messing about with template skins far less intuitive. It would make it far easier for any pilot to just up, paint and go, and feel more real as well.

They shouldn't have changed the name , i prefered the title "Knight of the Skies" , fitted really well WWI , many times pilots like Guynemer would refuse to shoot on a plane that was out of ammo because it was not fair , air fights were often personal duels back then .

I will buy this cause i'd love to fly those planes, Spad , Fokkers etc.. i can't wait ! i hope it's out before next year to make the wait for SoW less painful http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It sounds like that's the plan.. If there are only to be two kites to start out with, that's a pretty good pair. Even with the "uber" planes of WWI I think we're all going to have to make some major adjustments from what we have grown used to with the power of WWII a/c. It'll probably be pretty hilarious online at first; everyone will be stalling in their yo-yos and chandelles!

I thought that name was Rock and Roll....

Billy, there's a sizeable part of the community with many years in the Red Baron series.
Depending on the RoF FM there will be some time getting acclimated but I can assure you that
we already have our tactics and history down!

I am very excited about this, I was an avid Red Baron and Wings of Glory player. I understand it's not as easy to make a plane like it was 18 years ago, but I will be saddened just a tad not being able to fly my "Spinning Incinerator" Airco D.H.2 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I do love some of those early war models that won't be represented. It would be nice if French squadrons got a Nieuport of some kind, quite a few pilots kept flying the 17 well into 1917.

Yes, The Great SPAD Challenge! Guess who was the one up to the ceiling and waiting for Ish

I'm in the same boat Uther.

Guess the WW1 addiction will have to wait till SOW is released. I'm really trying to hold off any new computer build till Oleg publishes minimum specs.

And the graphics card.

It seems strange to me that a system that runs IL2 at max settings is (at least in one respect) less than what's required to run Rise of Flight minimally. I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised that my computer couldn't run RoF maxed out, but to be below the minimum requirement is a bit hard to swallow.

I'm wondering if there's not a typo or some other miscommunication involved here.

Is it just me?

Metatron_123
09-05-2008, 07:01 PM
I'm surprised too, especially since in one of the links I found related to ROF, the developers claimed it would not be very demanding and would run on mid-range pcs.

Do I have to be the one to ask it...

Any idea of a release date. The blog section gave a date that seemed tongue-in-cheek. However, the writer of the site clearly was not a native english speaker, so I could be wrong.
