Was reading a post that said IL2Stab does not work with Vista and to use IL2Mat instead checked over at Mission4today and think their d/l link is broke as i couldn't get it to work.
Is there any other site where its available.
thx in advance.

They are really two different things. Il2stab configures the game for you and lets you easily change settings like the type of water and also enables the hakencruz.

Il2mat is different. Basically it replaces the stock markings with historically more correct weathered and faded ones. Once you have tried Il2mat the standard markings look almost toy like. IL2mat is not the easiest thing to install and get running (I still only get weathered markings on the first 4 planes in any flight for example) but its an amazing program and well worth the effort.

Yeah, not sure about with any weird mods you have though.

This little gif should give you an idea of what it does ...

Just installed IL2Mat but am getting IL2MAT can't find the IL2FB/PF EXE.
tried setting the correct path to IL1 1946 but it doesn't seem to want to except it.
has anyone install IL2MAT into IL2 1946 using the Vista home premium o.s? and if you got it running all right whats the secret lol

If i remember correctly Il2mat still looks for an exe called IL2FB so you just make a copy of the real 1946 exe in the same folder and rename the copy whatever IL2mat is looking for (make sure you copy it not rename the real one or the game probably will not work at all).

Check my 'Updating 1946' link in sig. I did a step-by-step.

I can't vouch for Vista, but Mat Manager works on my XP Pro with '46 and SoundMod v0.93. Surprisingly, the new markings even seem to work correctly on the new aircraft I've installed (Spitfire MkI, Beaufighter MkX, Me 410). Follow Skycat's tutorial and you should be good to go.
