so we got these 2 giant, global forces..

The Assassins and The Templars... 2 giant, global forces that have been fighting for over thousands of years

the Templars goal is to control the world, and bring peace and secure the future of humanity

the Assassins goal is to stop that and ensure the survival of "free will" even if that means destruction, chaos, war etc....

1. what is "free will" what do they mean, the Assassins want to ensure the survival of "Free Will"

2. Are the Templar's really "bad" people.. are the Assassins "bad"

The Templars are trying to acheive world peace, whats so bad about that..]

im just trying to think about this logically..

The Assassins fight for humans to be free through their right to choose.
The Templars feel that humans do not have the nature to think freely and independently, so they try to force peace on humanity. It is basically a forced peace where we are basically "robots" in peace.
The Assassins believe that this can be achieved by combined learned knowledge and not forced knowledge by people in power.
I wouldn't necessarily call either side "bad"
Because we have only seen 3 viewpoints of this war.
That's what I love about this series, there are many different viewpoints that can be seen from an Assassin or Templar.
Judging from Altair, Ezio and Desmonds view, the Templars Have done some messed up stuff though.
Hope this helps.

so in essence.. both forces are fighting for peace

but the templars want a "forced peace" in which they want to control the world.. and they do not believe humans have a right to choose

and the assassins want peace as well, but believe peace can be assured by mankind.. through what you said, combined knowledge..

If you read the book, Ezio doesn't have to much faith in humanity either, but he will keep trying anyway.

One of the things I like about the games. Shades of gray. Both groups aspire to a similar goal, peace for all mankind. They simply have different ideas about how to achieve it. The templars believe they individuals if left to themselves will never be able to achieve peace. This leads them to believe that any means necessary to control people is okay if it leads ultimately to peace.
The Assassins also want peace, but are not willing to sacrifice an individuals free will to achieve it. That laws and manmade devices to control people and their thinking are not the way to achieve peace.
The old master said it best in the first game. The world is full of illusion. The Templars want to use those illusions to bring about peace, where the Assassins believe that if the illusions were all dispelled that the people themselves would accept peace.

And the assassins allow people to kill eachother.
There are arguments both ways.

Someone should create a Timeline Graph of important events during the Assassin vs Templar "war", would be nice to see something nice and elaborate. Im not sure if im a good candidate for this however, it might require a lot of digging in the AC Wikia page. :P
