View Full Version : Graphic Settings

I was hoping someone could give me a little help with the Graphics setup. (Debated whether to post here or community help) I'm running IL2+AEP+PF. I was curious if someone could give me a rundown in the setup screen on what the following settings effect, and how whether the settings increase performance or graphics.

Stencil Buffer:What does this effect? Is there a boost in FPS when turned off?

Texture Minimap Filter:I'm assuming bilinear has best performance, but how much do these settings effect graphics and performance?

Texture Compression:I really have no clue which of the three settings offers best performance, best graphics, and which is middle ground.

Plus if there's anything else under this setting which may offer a significant change in performance a rundown would be greatly appreciated.

I searched through Air Warfare first and the Community Help Forum, but didn't really find (or perhaps look hard enough) information that helped me in this regard. Thanks in advance!

The stencil buffer helps in certain situations, with certain cards or combos of hardware, when a texture "fight" is ocurring between some textures. this can be seen as things such as flashing textures or perhaps even missing textures (like you can see into a B-24 from the side, or you can see retracted wheels in wheel wells when a wing is viewed from above. I have never seen a performance hit from the stencil buffer personally, which I have to use by the way

More filtering or more compression should be more taxing on system resources

A thing which helps me personally for performance is flat landscape lighting. However, flat aircraft lighting effects colors so much on aircraft that I go to medium at lowest

I also play 1024x768x16, since the sim is native to 1024x768, and the extra color depth is too much of a sacrifice to justify for me unless I'm taking a screenshot

Thanks guys, exactly what I was looking for. The top link especially gave me some help, a shame I didn't find it on my own. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
