Yep ruined it. Will not load any disc from the dashboard. Just says, open tray then reading then open tray. Happend after the infamous disc read error during gameplay. My 360 is totally stock a year and half old. Microsoft tells me I can send it in and pay. Thanks ubisoft. Ive tried removing the hdd makes no difference, put a lens cleaner, nothing. Let it sit and cool. Nothing.

For sale 9 games, 3 guitars, 2 wireless controllers, charger, headset.

I have been on other forums and same complaints. Ill go dig around and throw some links up. I called blockbuster and recommended to the manager to do a little online research and possibly hold off on rentals as this could happen to more people locally. He said thank you and hung up on me. So I took my box down there and he changed his mind. I have emailed Microsoft and because my 12 year old brother changed my face and wanted the microsoft security tag for a sticker GRRRRR! so I am pretty much SOL. Hey at least blockbuster refunded my rental money HAH

I started playing AC last night. Played almost through Block #1. Got unreadable disk error.
Turned off 360, then back on....and immediately recieved unreadable disk.
Turned off 360 again, then back on... unreadable again.
Removed and cleaned a brand new disk, turned off 360 again, then back on................

message detail (so frustrated i accidentally posted this in the Creed PS3 forum - duh)
I am on memory block 5 n Assassin's Creed... at first the game would freeze (xbox would stop spinning the disc) and i would get the disc unreadable screen 30 seconds in. now i can't even turn the xbox on when Assassin's Creed is inserted. it freezes on the green xbox 360 live screen.

i just got off the phone with a UBISOFT representative that had me try to clear my cache (hold two top bumper buttons while turning on your xbox). that didnt work.

"well in this case... THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND UBISOFT IS WORKING WITH MICROSOFT on a patch that will automatically upload during normal updates."

they would not replace the game for me because there is no sense in them sending out another copy of a game that may or may not work.

my 90 day warranty (as per ubisoft) is invalid because this is a "known problem" and not a disc that cracked or broke.

me: "so you're telling me you know your game is defective... and i'm out of luck?"

representative: "in this case, yes sir. have a good night."

very nice guy... i mean what can he say.

UBISOFTS # 919-460-9778

MORE GREAT Q AND A TESTING FROM OUR FRIENDS AT MICROSOFT AND UBISOFT. Well done guys... way to take everyone's money and then say "oops." work quicker on your patch! Very disappointing.

yay good for you! well..perhaps not, but as far as ps3's and mac's go..
-everybody will hate you and make fun of you,
-both of those are generally more expensive,
-you wont have halo, any of the 360 only games or anything.exe
but... honestly,
-you can just hate them and make fun of them all back,
-you can brag more,
-halo bores me, ps3's getting a few of it's own, and theres prettymuch no viruses, random crashes, etc.

and the dark side has cookies so...yeah...

anyways,

So because the last game you played on the 360 was AC that means AC is to blame. Nice faulty logic there. Post hoc ergo propter hoc (after this, therefore because of this). This is the fallacy of assuming that A caused B simply because A happened prior to B.

The fact is, 360s burn out - literally. Some of them have cooling problems and eventually their processors just fry. Blame Microsoft, not Ubisoft.

I just tried to install a patch that i downloaded and put on a blank cd. It still wont start it or read it but it does spend a little more time trying to read it. And instead of saying open tray it says Mixed media cd so it seems partially alive. im going to try to open in and blow it out with some air.

by the way beer, look at other forums online. Or try looking at ALL the posts on these forums OR try looking at the 2 other forums ive linked to. Its ok to like the game hell I liked the little bit I played but dont bash something thats obvious. I have had a disc read error occasionally with my other games but a simple restart works great. Can you explain Why a 2 week old xbox from another user stopped working and exhibiting the same issue when A's C was the 3rd game the console has seen?

All I'm saying is that you're jumping to conclusions when you say that AC has ruined your Xbox. If the game software had a virus in it that destroyed Xboxes I think a lot more of us would have noticed it. As for disc read errors - if that's all it is then Occam's Razor would suggest that it was a problem of dirty laser heads. This can indeed stop Xboxes from reading discs - in fact it's the most common cause of disc read errors.

But you're basically saying that AC has some magical ability to reprogram your Xbox - just yours and a few others. I mean in order to believe that, I'd have to believe that there was a conspiracy on the part of Ubisoft to ruin just a few Xboxes. Then they'd have to find a way to magically program the disc so the software only targeted a few consoles. It's ridiculous.

Occam's razor suggests that it's far more likely that either your laser heads are dirty or your Xbox has been hit by the infamous Xbox overheating problem. In the latter case there's no need for a conspiracy - it's a well known problem with the console. Again, just because the Xbox breaks after having the AC disc inserted into it does not mean that AC is to blame. Unless you have actual evidence proving that AC is to blame, logic dictates that the most likely cause is either dirty laser heads or the Xbox overheating problem, and that the AC connection is purely coincidental.

Did you ever think that perhaps each post stands on its own merits and can be responded to on its own? There is no rule that says that a thread has to be read in its entirety before a member is allowed to respond to a single post.

As for who's making the bigger *** out of himself, I'll just say that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. After all, you're the one who seems to think that AC's software has magical properties, and you're the one who can't seem to understand that when one thing follows another it's not necessarily caused by it.

---------------------------------

SOLUTIONS

BEFORE you assassinate anyone and before you pay Microsoft hundreds of dollars to take your Xbox apart and clean the laser heads for you, get yourself a DVD laser head cleaner - one with the CD and the little bottle of cleaning solution - and give the heads a good cleaning. See if that solves the problem. If not, you've wasted $5. If it fixes it you've saved yourself hundreds.

ok turbo here ya go, I took my box apart because the seal was already removed read previous posts.

So explain this to me

Since my problem with A's C, as I sit here I have my machine totally open and viewing the drive. I have the magnetic cd cap out of the top cover so I can witness the drive trying to read cds. (already cleaned the lens with a hand cleaning kit and solution cleaning discs can make a problem worse) with ANY of my 360 games the cd moves about 1 inch before the drive quits trying. The same with all my standard xbox game, and 15 DVDs i have tried. I removed the disc motor used light compressed air tried again same result. Here is where it gets interesting. The cd I made with the latest update spools up fine. And continues running while telling me in the dashboard its a mixed media cd. Infact any pc related cd, my catalyst driver cd, windows cd, any cd with pc media it reads and hums along. So what ideas you have now? its not the lens, its not the motor, its not the drive. Software related I think so. And I don't think its all that hard to think its an issue with A's C. I am not the only one having this problem at all. Remember when valve's source code was stolen pushing back the HL series. I don't find it hard to think at all that some code or virus was introduced to sabotage or by accident ended up in end user products. What other ideas do you have? I would love to hear em.

looks like ill try to reflash my toshiba/samsung cdrom. if that dosent work ebay has oem new drives for about 50 bucks you will still have to flash but its alot cheaper than a ps3 atm. Just have to wait to play A's C after a patch is released to resolve this issue. Im sure more and more people will be complaining and it will get resolved sucks tho seems like a sweet game.

That would suggest it's a mechanical problem with the drive. Again, I doubt that AC's software can cause a disc motor to stop spinning.

Yes. Every now and then an Xbox is going to fail after putting in an AC disc. Since AC is one of the top selling games for the Xbox there are going to be tens, perhaps even hundreds of people whose Xboxes are about to fail due to faulty manufacture of the console, and who are playing AC at the time.

Again, blame Microsoft, not Ubisoft.

But you go on believing that AC is causing all this if you want. Some people need their fantasies.

If Microsoft is telling you that you need to pay, they're attempting a scam.

The warranty was extended to three years worldwide. My Xbox has recently, purchased September '06, and I've recently had to send it to repair (not sure if I'm getting it back though, given it took a week for MS to send a single email to UPS) with no cost (not even shipping).
