View Full Version : Radio messages (taking a merchant as prize?)

12-31-2005, 05:05 PM
I was on a normal patrol and I begin to receive radio messages from a different Uboat that was "escorting an enemy merchant" back to Kiel as a prize.

Then about 10-15 minutes later I get another radio message and it says:

"By order of the Fuhrer, all merchant ships making use of radio on being stopped are to be either sunk or taken in prize. Efforts are being made to save the crews."

What does this mean exactly? Are we able to take merchant ships back to home base instead of sinking them? If so, how do you do this? LOL.

Thanks. Sorry if this post is ignorant. I'm still new to the game.

The answer is yes and its pretty simple. All you have to do is stop your uboot infront of the merchant. You have to be on the surface and it seems to works best if you are perpendicular to it. The merchant will eventually slow down when as it approaches your uboot . I have seen this also happen with DD's. Once again its important to be directly infront of the ship.Cheers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What do you do after the merchant stops? Does some kind of popwindow come up or some message? How do you actually escort it back? Does it automatically follow you once you stop in front of the ship?

Its automatic when it happens. You will receive a message when its about 15-25 meters away depending on the size of the ship, bigger cargos and DD's usually take longer.

your kidding right? ive never seen this. I think he just wants you to get run over.

This has to be some kind of hoax unless there is a mod that makes it possible. I once played chicken with a tug boat for a half hour until I finally figured out his game and was able to ram him and sick him. Of course I didn't get any credit for it.

There is no such thing as taking over cargos in SH3 or with any mod but you are still welcome to try though. The radio messages you have recieved are just for adding a little realism. I assume you have downloaded some kind of mod such as radio traffic or RUB/IUB. Most messages are true in a sense that they are based on actual historical events that took place during the dates you are sailing. The messages themselves might not actually be useful others might be for example you might receive a message requesting all uboots in a near a certain grid to report to a specific area to assist the Bismarck(not giving dates or area, this isnt going to be a spoiler). Do some research and it might pay off. As for the false messages you received earlier I will punish my Second in command for that because he is just an evil evil man http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Even in a career is not too bad. Reload a previous save http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Would be nice though, if we were able to stop and search merchants... in the beginning of the war ofcourse, until BdU tells us otherwise

....and turn it in to a FPS while on board the enemy ship.
