....breathtaking...first read this:

"Sometimes you'll be starting in the hangar, and taxiing to the runway. Please keep in mind that this is the very first in-engine shot you're seeing. Shadows and lighting are mostly turned off. The plane is also not fully textured.

The planes in BoB will have dynamic weathering effects applied to them - you'll see exhaust stains growing, paint chipping away as you fly, etc; and also there'll be bump mapping and other technical sounding effects that make the planes much more detailed and life-like. All those features are turned off in this version of the engine, although they are fully working in engine tools.

So you're basically seeing the bare underpaint of the Spitfire, without any of the cool extra effects that have never been done in any other sim! This is what it'll look like on the minimum graphic settings."

and now look

I like the idea of starting in a hangar and taxiing to the runway. Should add much more immersion for offline/campaigns than the usual all lined up on the runway ready to go that we have now.

Don't like the idea of starting in the hangar any more than NOT starting on the runway. Starting in a hangar will get old very quickly.

But it's interesting to see that the spit1a has smaller cockpit bars than the FB spitfires.

And I hope that that terrible FB taxi bounce that you get when you're not on the runway will be gone as well. Seeing that the spitfires took off from grass airfields I never understood why taxiing the spitfire on grass must be so bouncy in FB.

Well since BoB doesn't use FB's engine, I'd say there might be a small chance that ground handling will be different http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I can`t believe some of you are whining about starting in the hanger! Are you guys just unappreciative whelps or what?!

I`ve always wanted to start in the hanger sometimes and all the best sims usually allowed you to start there. Also, those that allowed a hanger start would also allow the OPTION of a runway start, which I believe will happen here.

Talk about whining for whining`s sake.

I thoroughly enjoy starting from the hangars. My squadron does that all of the time and even though it is a bit time consuming it is very immersive and fun not to mention realistic. MUST PEOPLE WHINE ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!!! I am sure that there will be an option to start in hangars or not. Wait until some concrete facts are published about SoW:BoB and THEN START WHINING! Jeez...

If hanger starts are there, wouldn't it be logical to presume the ability to start 'anywhere' on airfields is what makes it possible? Not everybody is going to place hangers in the same spots on custom template missions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Hanger starts would be 'gamey'.

But it would set up the potential of new scenario's, hound and hare type situations. The ability to land damaged, and taxi into a hanger while under base attack by enemy fighter weapons, would even out the so called 'vulching' issue nicely.

In later versions of BoB, it could be utilized to replicate what conditions were like in the latter stages of the war, ie me262 vulnerability and the need to get under cover before maurading allied ground attack aircraft picked them off in the open..

Personally im looking forward to BoB alot! I think grass starts by admin huts or mess huts would be more realistic than actual hanger starts but it doesnt matter that much. Maybe we'll have the option to start where ever we want, wouldnt that be a dream?

Unless the Brits did it differently in the old days, people usually don't taxi planes out of hangers anywho. At least not in modern general aviation these days. You generally tow planes out of hangers using a towbar if it's a small plane. Or push it out by hand. If I taxied out of a hanger where I used to fly, I'd would have been skinned alive by the airport manager. It blows dirt and what have you all around. Even if your plane is well outside and in front of a hanger they don't want you to start up and taxi if the tail is pointed towards the hanger, since it will blow stuff backwards at a high velocity. Such behavior is frowned on and I'd be willing to bet that the Brits, Jerries or any nationalities air force taxied out of hangers during the war. Same thing goes for taxiing into hangers, just not done in the real world. I serioulsy doubt it was done much in war time. Could be wrong here, but I doubt it.

this thread has TWO distinct POINTS of view...

BOTH are clearly represented.

its great to see a PAIR of distinctivly seperate subjects get equal SUPPORT in one thread.

On one hand - I lick what I see, and on the other ..lets just say that HANGARS aren't as cool as you might think. However, with proper support, even HANGARS can be made acceptable.

personally - I prefer that these subjects be more self-supporting or 'perky' and not so dependant on any kind of external framework...but thats just me.
