Starcraft was an awesome game. I can't believe someone would die playing it, very sad, but it was an excellent game with good graphics, well balanced sides, and a ton of units. I usually can't play more than a couple missions in most RTS games but Starcraft had me hooked.

collapsed Friday after having eaten minimally and not sleeping, refusing to leave his keyboard while he played the battle simulation game Starcraft

Starcraft is an RTS (Real-Time Strategy), not a simulation. Then again, the "news" story if from FOX News, nuff said.....

Keep in mind that in South Korea, Starcraft is like Pro Football in the U.S.

you've never played X-Wing? X-Wing Alliance kicks a&se, better than Wing Commander IMO. Ok its old but there hasn't been a decent space sim in AGES.

TIE Fighter too.

StarCraft glory days maybe is over, but it´s still fun to play sometime.
I like Real-Time Strategy games and play right often Down of War this days, only negative I have for them is the limited numbers of troopers and vehicle.

It sad when people dosen consern abourt them self when they play games. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Anyway, the guy may have been a professional gamer, maybe even a world champion or something. You would then see how much pressure those people have to win and play and win and play (especially if they have no other income; the closest thing to that in the western world is gambling, espec. poker with the difference that poker is not that energy-consuming as a competitive RTS and you wouldn't die of exhaustion, only look like a mess). The article is too vague to tell. And for all those who say that they have played for 3-4 days in a row sturmovik and are still alive and healthy, they are either kidding, exaggerating or have some serious issues. Btw, have you done that in a netcafe after having been fired and without eating.

As for starcraft, the game has sold 10 million copies since 1998 in S. Korea, a country with a pop of 47 million, which probably means that almost all men with age 13-30 have bought the game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif. Abnormal phenomena cause abnormal social issues like this one more videogame-related death.

Personally I like Star Trek. I mean movies series etc. But games... AFAIK there is no decent Star Trek game outhere. That kind of scenario is too demanding IMHO.

I wonder what you mean with "those" games. As if StarCraft had anything in common with Wing Commander or any Star Wars title I can think of.

StarCraft imho is the best RTS game published so far.

I prefer AoE2, but yes, Starcraft, just like most Blizzard games was revolutionary and voted by almost everyone as the best game of its era.

Just the kind of hard-hitting topical reporting you'd expect from Fox News. Nice to see the 24-hour news channels are as irrelevant on the Internet as they are on the TV.

Sometimes I wonder if the cable news industry underestimates us, or if we are really that **** dumb.

Personally I always hated the Starcraft, unlike my old friends who found it to be the best game ever. But a really funny thing was when one of them said that any good Starcraft player would also be a good general in real life(oh yeah!).
I personally more liked the Warcraft series.

Anyway that guy and all other guys who died from computer gaming were complete MORONS!
It not relevant if they live from it or not, they simply didn't know their limits, and paid whit their heads for it.

Modesty man, that I'm talking about.

Guys..why bash foxnews? This was a reprinted AP story (look at the byline), originally reported by Reuters (http://go.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle.jhtml?&storyID=9316267) the day before. Same story can be found at any of the news networks you prefer.

Yes. I have read that story in newspaper that I read every day.

I'm not bashing Fox news in particular. I'm commenting on all the 24-hr cable tabloid outlets. You see, it's not the coverage of this story, but the focus in general.

CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, FOX.....****

You see, I thought that 24 hours was enough time to cover important news more thoroughly. Not so. Instead of the evening news expanded, we got inside edition compressed.

15 min of gossip over and over. And there are only 5 basic stories these channels cover.

1. An attractive white woman or any white child is discovered missing, kidnapped, or dead. (apparently, non-Europeans are never the victims of crimes.)

2. Celebritys are doing things.

3. Simi-famous person is dead or dying. All of a sudden, everyone loves them.

4. small numbers of white people dead, new legislation introduced so that it never happens again. (meanwhile in Africa, definition of Genocide and Famine are disputed)

5. "Suspect" is sought, captured, killed, or on trial. (usually for causing the death of white people. )

And then there are the politics.... but that's a hot potato.

I saw this story on Comcast and Yahoo several says ago. For those of you that have never played Starcraft, it is the most addictive game I've ever played, especially multi-player. It is still huge in South Korea, even after 7 or 8 years. Professional gamers there make some big money and it is televised as well from what I understand. Sad, though, that some one could lose their job and die from exhaustion playing a computer game.
