http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=248&topic_id=10904 A friend sent me this link, its about fs2006, so, no shooting but I hope BOB looks somewhat like that. I am afraid to ask what kind of computer one will need to have look this way, but, it looks really nice.

Keep in mind the DX10 shot is only an artist's conception and not entirely a render, but still it's amazing.

What blows me away is that they are actually simulating such things as the migratory patterns of elephants, sea lanes, automobile traffic... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Since DX10 will only be bundled with Vista you will need to get new software and hardware as your new card will have to be dx10 capable.
XP and below will never see dx10 according to MS.
It will be nice but no sooner than next year hopefully.

Not sure about migrating elephants but Oleg did say BoB would have populated cities with traffic and so on, perhaps not to the level of that thing but there will be stuff moving about.

That`s all very well, but I`ve seen all this before. Then when we try to fly the thing most of us will be at 2 frames a second.

I want good graphics, but GAMEPLAY, the flying, the fighting and the rest of it are what`s important. I won`t even be all that bothered if the graphics look IL2-ish in BOB as long as I get thousands of Bombers to shoot down over bombed up London and an immersive Spitfire\Hurricane to takeoff and fight in.

I think we know that Oleg will take care of all the details that you're concerned about. The thing that excites me about this level of visual detail in the surroundings is that even if our computers can't render it now, it's where we're headed. If not next year then in a couple more. Gaming is getting close to insanely realistic.

It's good to see that computing power is the main bottle neck, not creativity or willingness of developers to go to this depth of detail. The future is bright.

+1 I agree 100 percent with Seafire. I'll take what he wants over the eyecandy anyday.

Before I hang up my stick I want that kind of detail, with a good HMD and motion tracking. Preferably with hundreds of bombers. If it takes 10,15 years, I don't mind, I'll still be here (just).

Once we get there I'll be happy to pass gaming and simming onto my son. In the meantime, looking forward to the trip.

Same shot... only with DX-9 rendering.
http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/13/0,1425,sz=1&i=133378,00.jpg

What is also interesting is that it would be great if you could go from one to the other with the flick of a setting.... say if the above shot was at excellent.. and the first one was perfect. The above shot is decent for the low settings wouldnt you say..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

Frankly I want both... eye candy and peformance... and I think eventually we will get it. If MS was smart what they would do is build in damage models or the capability of inseting da,mage models into the mix simply by adding planes.... for instance.... You see those Warbird add ons for FSIX? http://www.simhq.com/ads/WOPIIBanner.gif<A HREF=http://www.gogamer.com/cgi-bin/GoGamer.storefront/en/Product/001WIN2</A>">
I wouldnt even bother with them because they have no damage model.... no guns. If they built the capability for say..... CFSIV into FS IX from the jump.... They would IMO have an even bigger selling sim.. especially with graphics like the DX-X stuff above. However I still think that BoB will up the ante considerably... and unless MS does something like that BoB & IC will remain the top dogs in WWII sims... unless there is a drak horse in the stall already that we dont know about.

The only BIG beef I have with MSFS is that You cannot Spin, you cannot snap roll. Some of the aerobatic stuff really sucks. Tailwheel takeoffs and landings SUCK.

Generally if ur not flying a JET, it sucks.

Yes I agree with Bearcat... the eye candy is part of the puzzle with immersion for me. Coming in for a landing and being able to eyeball your altitude is a real asset, and that has only become possible for me in this flight sim: but when it gets better, I think landings will consequently become easier.

Prolly have to connect to Deep Blue to run that....
