I hear lots of rumors and stories about the lack of support for widescreen due to one reason or another; it would be nice to hear the facts from the Horses mouth http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Many thanks

If you chaps do not answer soon I will have no choice but to post those naked pictures of you all during your various "field trips" to get your attention; and trust me, the pictures do not make pretty site, and to be frank, are quite disturbing...

Please answer

Add me to the list of folks who "want to know" about widescreen support. I bought a DLP projector a while back that does high def by default... Would love to be able to actually utilize it.

Thanks much for any replies.

This question has been floating around for quite some time now. I've read about it in other threads going back months.

The silence is deafening. It appears that it is too difficult to implement into the existing program. I also heard that it is considered a cheat. As well software companies that support widescreen are a small minority at this point.

Any reliable information on this would be appreciated. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Just a no would be nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Or better an answer if the next sim (maybe) will support it.

I don't consider it a cheat. If so when you use 1280x1024 that is also a cheat compared with 1024x768 users or trackIR...

why answer the question is soooo big problem ???
**** you - about year ago, when i switch to lcd (19'') i notice that i can't play on native 1280x1024. Answer from Maddox (some readme.txt) was that is too difficult to make textures working correctly on 4:3 vs 4:5 or some similar bul****.
It was very easy to edit this crappy .ini file, and it is working.
Now, one year later we have got Falcon4 AF. No support for 1280x1024. Patch 1.02 released and ?here we go ! 1280x1024 avaible ! Don't need to edit some stupid .ini files! So, it is possible. Now - yea i'm thinking about some 20 - 24 nice lcd. Maybe widescreen. I know that a lot of virtual fighter pilots has got widescreen lcd monitors. Why you don't give a **** about it ? Why you just don't support it ? This is a future of lcd, so think about it.

greetings,

Peacemaker.

p.s.

and resolve this annoying bug with stuttering when water=3 enabled ! I spend alot hard working money, just becouse i like eye-candy games and IL2 series is still best one, but you really ****ed me up, when i discovered, that has nothing to do with nVidia drivers! This is your fault !

Unless I'm misreading this thread IL2 already has widescreen support. I'm using one of the Dell 2005 FPW monitors which is the 16:10 aspect ratio. All I had to do was manually enter 1680x1050 as the resolution in conf.ini and change the line 'SaveAspect=1' to 'SaveAspect=0'.

I haven't had any problems playing off or online. Menus have black bars on the side because they're made for 4:3 aspect, but once you're in game it fills the whole screen. They even fixed a slight bug in 4.02 where fog wouldn't appear along the edges of the screen.

You think it works but it doesn't, I got the same monitor.

There are a number of other games that just cut the tops and bottoms off the screen. It's not as good a solution as adding the extra space to the sides obviously, but it does allow for an undistorted picture which is the most important thing here imo.

I also bought a widescreen laptop. Big mistake. 4:3 is much better.

Well, u can use the 1366 768 resolution that is apparently native.

but personally i use 1360 768 and then i use a FOV setting that is further back inside cockpit.
so i basically get the same vertical view as 4:3 but also gain the wider view.
try it out you might like it.

Slapp

Thanks Turbo, I'll give it a go.

What bothers me is why it takes over three months to answer a basic, simple, and, IMHO, important question!
This post has created over 2300 views and has to be worthy of an answer!

Surely this is the right place to ask?

Please answer, a simple yes or no would suffice.

Thank you

Although a "yes" would suffice a bit better than a "no" would in my opinion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Widescreen is definitely the wave of the future, in TV's, in monitors and in all of gaming. Soon (maybe by the time Bob comes out) if a new game doesn't support that feature, it'll be considered an old game soon enough.

I think if the answer were yes, it would have been posted long ago. It's taken so long to answer this that only one conclusion comes to mind, for some reason they haven't been able to figure out a way to implement Widescreen into Bob, so far. And until they do or they are positive they absolutely cant, you wont get an answer.

Guys, I'm pretty sure it's because of OpenGL and shouldn't be a problem with DX which I think BoB will be using. That was my understanding.

IRC

It's a matter of how the aspect is calculated vertically vs horizontaly. I don't know how hard it would be to implement but I would really love to see it supported. This would extend the life of the game even further.

I think it also includes the current version of IL2

Seems related to topic.

Can we have TFT resolutions (screen aspect ratio, to be precise) supported, please?

It looks awkward to see a dial instrument not round.

Well your right there, what if the competition (what bloody competition?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif) found out whether or not BoB will use WS? They could really take advantage of that fact to make a superior product....

Bump !

The lack of proper widescreen support in IL2 is very annoying.
We had a fix that made it possible (although the top and bottom are chopped off rather than gain a bit at the sides) but it will not work in crossfire mode.
As soon as I try any res outside of 1280x1024, or any 4:3 res, then the game resorts to single card, as this happens ONLY with IL2 and all other games work fine, it must have something to do with the way WS is implemented in this game.
Pleeeeeeeease Oleg, can you sort this http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
