I would seriously doubt it. The end of next year, maybe...

I'd make my guess at around 2nd or 3rd quarter 2006, IF the dev team are allowed to dump focus on PF (like they should coz times move on) and concentrate on BoB exclusively.

I suspect BoB will be maybe 3rd Quarter 2006. By then the hardware necessary to take sims to the next level that Oleg wants to take them to...will be available in force.

I don't mean the ever perpetual increase in performance but new architecture changes like dual core processors, DDR2 or DDR3 or XRD2, and budget or mainstream video cards with the power of the current X800 series or GeForce 6800 series. That will mean something significant.

As Oleg said, we'd probably have to upgrade. I'm certain many of us will.

My guess and thats all it is would be late 06 early 07. I dont think they want to make the sim too processor intensive.... and I think they can kind of stretch this puppy out a bit. I think the more people they get into this series the bigger base they will have for BoB.... and all the naysayers notwithstanding.. I dont think too many of us will not have BoB on our HDs within 7 days of it's release wherever we live.

What do you think about support for Physics Processing Units? (http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=140)

AFAIK this PPU has a few quite tight requirements. I'm not sure it works with a FlightSim as people imagine - let alone work with the solutions Maddox Games comes up with.

I'm really undecided about the physics processors. I think there are some pros and some cons.

It means you have to buy another piece of hardware thats probably a couple hundred dollars. Although they may be for all sorts of games, it could also make a niche market like the flight sim market even more exclusive and we don't need to do that at all.

I'm not sure if the PPU has a future. What I can see as a huge boon is the dual processor. Its going to become mainstream in the next two years and if BoB is written to take advantage of multithreaded dual processor cores then we can definately see some very impressive abilities come into place that maybe weren't available before. Basically, Oleg could put the two biggest things (physics and AI) that take up CPU cycles on alternate cores so that there is less performance hit and faster overall performance.

Like I said, far from being a niche item for gamers, dual core processors have lots of uses in both the business and entertainment world so you'll see lots of games using dual core and lots of possibility for Oleg to take advantage of it. As I understand, FB is already supporting hyperthreading.

But yes, my guess is somewhere in the middle or late 2006. That will make the dual core more or less mainstream and current generation of video cards acessible at low prices.

Easily 2nd quarter of 2007.That is why in 1C interest is to make us interested.

No matter how many planes we got we will be bored if we don`t get something new.Even a patch without new flyables. This game has a closed code and will not live long I`m affraid.

Few maybe 3 addons released through 15months would not hurt them.

I predict BofB release Not Later Than May 2006...and possibly Much earlier!

We are already flying an early beta of the BofB FM right now in the 4.01 patch.

There will be no more than 12-15 aircraft types in BofB, including variants.

There shouldn't need to be more than one map!

Many, many months ago, when Development updates were still being released, we were already seeing completed or nearly completed objects/vehicles/etc of all types...There is no knowing how many more have already been completed since then.

I think Oleg and Team have a BIG Surprise in store for the Flight Sim community!!

yes, oleg told me so.

I think the most important aspect will be the maps. They need to be modelled correctly, with real topographic features, like the dover cliffs, like having forests and towns and citie in the right location, and built using the correct plans.

Also, the maps should be big. I reckon the main map (that of the Channel and England) should extend from northern France up to the Yorkshire or so (well into Group 12 territory), and should extend from Holland, say, to the Welsh border (Group 10 territory).

And I'd say a second map would be very important is a map from Yorkshire to Scapa flow, which extends to the Norwegian coast. After all, the very first enemy aircraft shot down on british soil was done by pilots from 602 City of Glasgow squadron over the east coast of Scotland, so you really should have a map for them to fly out of.

Really, that's all that's needed, 2 maps covering that area. Although, even better would be a single map covering the entire British Isles, with the west coast of Norway and northern Germany on the same map!

Map choice will really be the breaker. That and radar!

Everything is new from the ground up. Planes, ships, vehicles, terrain (which includes all the buildings, and trees, roads, rivers, etc) New FM, new damage model, new sky, clouds. New missions, new campaign, new multiplayer features, new mission builder.

March 2007 which will then be pushed back until June 2007.

I'd be surprised if something is not out for sale by this coming Thanksgiving, the start of the Christmas shopping season here in the States. I would expect Oleg and company to want to generate some cash this year. Perhaps through a paid add-on to PF?

I'd buy it!

Sounds like all these statements are nothing but "Dead Reckoning" to me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif
I'd rather hear it straight from the horse's mouth instead of these comments saying it's being released anywhere from Thanksgiving to the end of the world. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
What's the point in posting all this when none back it up with hard evidence? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Anyhow, like everyone else, I also look forward to BoB and yes it would be nice to have it as close to being realistic as possible. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I guess we just wait and see what unfolds as it should. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Ok & this is a serious question:should I forgo buying a new PC with all the bells & whistles until this BoB version comes out? Would it be worthwhile to see what it needs & what is available at that time rather than getting the best on the market in the immediate future...?

I'd say if you aren't hurting for speed now, wait it out until BoB. I have a 3Ghz P4 with a RAdeon 9800PRo and I have no plans on upgrading anything until BoB is out, even if it takes til the end of 2007. FB and Silent Hunter III are the only games I play, so upgrading would be pointless in my opinion as my system plays them plenty good right now. Anything you buy now will likely be close to minimum when BoB comes out. (I love the people who bought 6800s and X800s when they first came out using the exuse that they wanted to be ready for BoB lol)
