Being new to this forum i'm not sure if this has already been discussed to death... but here are a few aircraft i'd like to have seen on the agme, wether flyable or not.

Savoia Marchetti S.M.79 Mk II
I simply love pictures of this aircraft, especially in its mediterrannean colour schem, however it was quite a good torpedo bomber too and the Italians used it in this role quite a lot.

Fairey Battle
Absolute pants in combat but was stil in use into 1942 in the far east.

Fokker DXXX.I
Best Dutch aircraft of thew war, flown by the Finns to good affect agains the Russians as well as the Dutch in the far east against their Japanese counterparts.

Supermarine Walrus
Usually ship borne for recce work by the navy when out at sea.

Avro Lancaster
No need for an explanation is there?

Boulton Paul Defiant
First used as a fighter saw horrific losses early but was used to good affect as a night fighter.

Bristol Beaufort
Early war Torpedo bomber for RAF, good to have before the Beaufighter became operational.

Fairey Swordfish
Good old stringbag, crippled the Bismarck but easy to shoot down. Also showed the Japanese how to take out an enemy fleet by attacking the Italians at Taranto.

Hawker Typhoon
Is there any need though with the Tempest being in the game?

Hawker Sea Hurricane
Valuabe asset for Royal Navy before the Seafire comes into operation.

Short Sunderland
Saw much use as a naval recce aircraft in the North Sea, Atlantic and Mediterrannean (where it suffered from French attacks)

Vickers Wellington
Valuable RAF bomber, widely used by aircrews of other nationalities in England.

Westland Lysander
Used for covert operations supplying resistance in europe, also used extensively as a transport.

...............................................

Just had a quick look at the aircraft and only two are not British ha ha... still love to see the SM79 though, definately top of the list.

What do you think?

definatly 1000 % ....................

and anyway, the development of this game is from the official side almost closed - understandable after almost 7 years and and a new game in development.

Wait for Storm of War: BoB, some of the aircraft you want to see will be in there!

Nice list, I erspecially would LOVE the Hawker Typhoon, it would make a fantastic addition to online 1942-43 channel maps and even into Normandy.

A map based on the falaise pocket action would be awesome.

Typhoons/SPits/Tbolts vs Fw190A6/Bf109G10/Me410 (<another great addition http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Or a 1942 Channel map where Typhoons and SPitfires have to intercept nuiscense raids by Fw190A4/Me109F4/Me110.

I'm not sure heavy bombers are needed for online maps, the medium bombers are quite sufficient to create great battles. Maddox Games could create about 3 fighters in the time/effort it would take to create a Lancaster or B17 along with all the positions.

I reckon they would be fun for a while but soon lose their novelty.

Typhoon, Whirlwind, Me410, Hs129 would be great , and make excellent additions to the fantastic battles which some servers like Ukdedicated/Spits vs 109's/Skies Of/WIngs over Europe have created online.

The Typhoon would especially give the RAF a 1942-43 fighter other than the inevitable squadrons of SPitfires we see online right now. Not that I mind SPitfires, but it would be great to see some Typhoons in there. Plus it would give the Allies a 1942 fighter which would help the poor outclassed Spitfire V against the awesome FW190A4 and Bf109F4 combination.

All aircraft I like are probably in... if I want to nitpick sure I could use one or two extra, boosted FW's - P-51's - Tempests, Spitfire Mk.XIV & Typhoon... perhaps Lancaster.

But I really would appreciate Hs-129 cockpit, B5N Kate & Avenger/Devastator.
Without those 'Pacific ones' flyable, and few crucial maps more - Pacific Fighters have little sense other than being shoot 'em up http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

I'd definately like to see the Griffon Spitfire and Hawker Sea Fury in SOW.

But I'd also love to see the Wellington, Lancaster, Short Sunderland, Blenheim, PBY Catilina, B-26, B-17, Whirlwind, F4-U4, and faster Mosquitoes.

Another wish for a Typhoon here, as well as the missing PTO flyables. P-47N, F4U-4, and Tempest II & VI as well.

One other thing I'd like to see: Night fighters, complete with early radar. That would be a fun future addition to SoW, I think.

There are scores of aircraft that Oleg didn't model for Il2. With so many aircraft I am not surprised that many good ones were left out...keeping in mind that this sim has brought many fighters and planes to my attention that I never really knew about before.
With the development of planes taking far more time for the BoB engine, I wonder how many planes we will wind up getting for that, and how long the BoB series will keep going? Oleg says it takes about 6 months per plane for BoB with how much detail they are getting now. I wish he would have put that in terms of man-hours instead. Hopefully BoB will sell very well and Oleg will then get a larger team of warbird aficionados (who double as good programmers) to help with the BoB series.

More models of a flyable Mossie and an F86 Sabre.

Actually on that, wasnt there someone making some models for Il2-46 as Sabres??

Well, the game is not over yet. There are eager beavers over on "The Dark Side" who are working on new models (not other airplanes reskinned to look like them) for the Whirlwind and the Fairey Barracuda (!!!!). This is really big news, and, despite all the sound and fury of the past, ought to give IL-2 life long after BOBSOW (assuming it is ever released).

There are VERY few planes that I think really need to be in IL-2 as flyable:

Me-410
P-61
He-219

The issue with Night fighters, if I recall correctly from years ago, is that with the way the engine was built, there was no real way to create a 'radar' system to put into the game.

They are also working on radar. They have a Schrage Musik-equipped Bf 110G-4 ready now.

Appart from the obvious (and corrected by LowFlyer), I would dearly have liked to have an early war light bomber as flyable, not just the Ju-88. Blenheim, DB-3, SB-2 and Ki-21 would all fit the bill.

Erkki_M
06-04-2008, 03:58 AM
A26 or B26
more ju88 versions
Spitfire I and II
the non-export version of the Hurricane mk I
Hawk 75(the one coming with the mods is... umm.. unworthy)

But before those, I'd like to see the ones that we already have fixed... US Navy planes, Spitfire and FW190 first. And more Western Front maps, too...

Late war italian planes such as the G55 and the Sagittario along with the Lancaster.

Er....... the Fokker D.XXI did not see service against the Japanese in the NEI. Fokker DID design the D.XXI for the KNIL and the prototype spent some time on and over Java, but the KNIL rejected the plane and it was ordered by the air force in Holland instead.
In a way it's a pity the D.XXI did not see service in the NEI, on paper it would have been a good match against the Ki.27 and A5M4: better climb rate and maneuverability for the Japanese birds, heavier firepower and more robust construction for the Fokker.

I would have liked to see the following A/C

For British ETO
Typhoon
Spitfire XIV
Late Mosquito
Late Tempest V

In the spirit of IL2 FB 1946 the following British Jets:-

Meteor
Vampire

USAAF
Earlier P-38s for example E G H for Aleutian and Desert campaigns.

Even without the above IL2 has still been the best WW2 flight Sim I've used. Thx Oleg and all concerned, including those in the community, that produce all that great free content, campaigns, missions, templates, skins and online games. Salute http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

219 is such a beautifull airplane. It has to be in SoW when Oleg gets around to nightfighters.

But the plane I wanted to see in IL2 is the Me410, to give blue some late war ground attack capabilities online.
