View Full Version : Newbie is too slow!

Hi all, just a question of airspeed here.

I've flown Flightsims before so I know a few things. My problem is in the capaign flights I am ALWAYS too slow for my wing leader. I've tried adjusting the mixture and I usually just go down and up until it gets the highest rpm's. I trim everthing nice and smoothly, make sure my gears and flaps are up etc, and my little squad just goes away from me and keeps going and going. The only chance I have to catch them is when they're turning and I can't cut them off.

Usually my wingman just clicks slowly farther and farther as I struggle, but when an enemy pops, he just takes off like a bat out of hell like he's got a turbo under the hood. My guess is he was half throttle and went to full, even though I'm overheating my engine and still falling behind.

Any hints or tips would be GREATLY appreciated. It gets boring when all enemy are dead before I get there. Thanks in advance.

What plane are you flying? You have got your gear up haven't you? Have you checked outside with F2?

It's easy to keep up in most planes. You may be trying to climb too much. Keep your nose down for a faster, but more shallow climb.

I just autopilot until the action starts. Not really historical, but does keep you in formation.

Mortoma has it right, stick to a high speed gentle climb and worry about matching altitude only after you catch up.

From comments I've seen here it seems the F4F campaigns are the worst for this, the default cruise speeds set in the campaign templates is a touch too high. The above method will greatly assist. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
