I just bought it. I was somehow disappointed in demo, but I bought it anyway. Much more settings of difficulty... great game!

As a game it has its moments! on the positive side, sound is good [engine/gun fire] its best point is the ground layout, the green country side of Kent, the look of Stalingad in late summer of 42.
But its missing that atmosphere, and that feeling of involvement, in fact it reminds me a little of the old Microsoft combat sims, with its target indicator circle in the top left hand corner of the screen. Not bad but will be soon forgotten.

The arrivel of SoW will show us what W11 combat flight sims are ment to be

Watch two videos and tell me again it misses atmosphere.

WOP is really spot on, with atmosphere and sensation of flight.
Right scaled, right optimized.

Try it, you might not believe this beautiful game comes out from old IL-2 engine.
(Due to that, it has similar FM which feels not too bad.)
I just wonder whether BOB could surpass this graphic and feel.

Must say that heavy breathing from the Pilot must get annoying.

Must say that heavy breathing from the Pilot must get annoying.

In that first video, the poster said he forgot and left Teamspeak on. Didn't notice heavy breathing in other videos. This one got my attention.

Seems hard to knock WoP after seeing those videos.
The scenery speaks for itself, and the clouds do the game justice.

It appears to be Il2 with a modernized graphic engine.

I have to try the demo now to get a better feel for it. At least see how my system handles it, might actually need to complete game to get a better feel.

I noticed the heavy breathing occured when "pulling G's". Kind of a cool effect I thought.

I really loved the perfect flow of the 6DoF but I was dissapointed in the lack of controls and features (FMB to be sure) so I am glad to hear that more are being offered in the purchased version.

Heavy breathing at high G is in-game feature.
Not that annoying to me and it feels good when playing.
Sorry I forgot to put TS off.
Forget the breath anyway, it's too minor thing to discuss.

There are already two other topics dealing with Wings of Prey where some questions you might have have been answered...

Anyway aesthetically it's sublime but campaign mode is awful, with objectives of the 'Shoot down everything or else' arcade kind.

Great footage TC,
The reflections of the sunlight and shadows off the prop are real nice as well as the 262 flying over the cities. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

As much as i love IL2, this is def gonna be considered as my next sim. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I've watched a few videos of gameplay and I'm wondering about the damage models. In some cases (maybe because of the low res YouTube video) it seems like bullets are damaging the plane when they aren't exactly on target, as if there's an invisible cube around the plane that you can hit and cause damage. I'd appreciate any comments from people who have experience with the game.

Thanks!

There are no invisible hitbox cube although DM is simplified compared to IL-2. You hit what you see.
Ironically, this simplified DM feels better cause it reacts as what we've been thought and seen in ww2 video footage.
No, .50 cals do not kill tiger tank but it feels proper like one could see in first video.
Bullet speed is somewhat faster than IL-2 so it doesn't require huge deflection shot like IL-2.
That would be the reason why it seemed to have invisible hitbox.

I hope it gets opened up for modding. Much of the visuals are there. It's just the sim-lite aspects that want changing. The makers themselves are unlikely to have the background to do it, it's really up to the community instead.

I have been playing this for a week or so (full version) and I have to say it feels a lot like when I first picked up IL-2, some uncertain differences but with each new outing a feeling of "I just can't put this down at the moment".

Much potential here with this and if you are a graphics junky such as myself, you'll find the rendering absolutely superb straight away.

Still some tweaking required for sure, but cast your mind back to when your first tried IL-2?

What makes you quite so sure? If they announced that the lead developer was a real world pilot would you feel differently? I wonder...

I don't know, I guess the philosophy they are leaning towards is more of an entertaining arcade experience, with a nod to realism. These days I'm finding I am outgrowing Il-2 and looking for something a little more ruthless and unforgiving.

LOL!! Spoken like a true junkie. The IL-2 pill is a hard one to give up for sure.

I am, I was, and this mere eye candy flight game spoiled fun of IL-2.
Regarding graphics and sensation of combat flight, it really reminds me shock of IL-2 at 2001 as CS said so I can't go back.
Even with all these progress in realism and user mod in IL-2, I can't fly it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Played the demo and...well, it's fun, short term at least. Lots of eye candy, great effects, forgiving flight model even in simulation mode. Track IR also works like a charm, so there indeed is a lot of atmosphere coming up. The large bomber fomrations play their own part in this. The Berlin mission is great fun as well. I also quite enjoy the atmospheric additions like some great scores during flying. Cloud and weather effects are great, too.

But then again it's already tiring, I doubt long time motivation will kick in like IL2, for that the game architecture is too focused on rather arcadish mission building, the mixed in radio snippets from all sides involved are getting onto my nerves and fighting AI planes in later crates comes down to beeing constantly blacked out. It's like constant airquake on steroids.

What it did, however, is showing the huge pontential for BoB:SOW especially in graphics. The next guy complaining about Oleg focussing too much on graphics and immersion will get his head chopped of. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Some of the missions are simply annoying as they demand you do things impossible in real life. There's one night time mission in a Mustang, where the mission briefing can't decide between bombing ground targets and engaging swarms of enemy fighters. This simply wasn't done! Wilde Saw and intercepting bombers at night is one thing, but looking for single engined fighters wildly maneuvering at night as if they have 4th generation jet fighter systems on board is ludicrous.

Did I mention the ai flies on and on in a wide spiral of doom where you black out every 5 seconds but they just keep going?

There are some serious issues here that get in the way of historical accuracy and more importantly-fun. I wouldn't be so annoyed if I didn't think the thing had potential! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif
