I started out just drawing a ME-109 inspired aircraft last night out of sheer bordem. What evolved was amazing to my own eyes as I just kept getting new ideas and trying them and learning MS paint at the same time! Ladies and Gents may I introduce the Heinkel HE-109!

First drawing
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq166/FreiwilligeIL2/prototype.jpg

Now I changed things up a bit. Shortened the nose, redid the gears and tail.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq166/FreiwilligeIL2/HE-109A.jpg

refined some more and added a paint job!http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq166/FreiwilligeIL2/HE-109ApaintII.jpg

Finished product with a background!
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq166/FreiwilligeIL2/HE-109Antoncomplete.jpg

The Idea is that what would happen if Heinkel was offered the job of improving the Bf-109.

What you have is almost a new aircraft with a better canopy, rounded wing tips and a slight change in armament.

I tried doing this a while ago, but it's only a real plane this time. Don't think I will finish it:

Mad mspaint skills: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk2sPl_Z7ZU

These inspired me to start the Mirage, although it's hopeless to match his quality:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...X4&feature=quicklist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J0OVzERbX4&feature=quicklist)

MS Paint is a very old and weak system for painting though. I much prefer Facebook's Grafitti application which allows layers of colors, and has a playback function.

BTW Owl, those look like Stealth Goblins http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You also work quickly, at this rate you will have an entire air-force in no time.

The functionality appears nearly the same, at least by just taking a cursory glance at it.

On the subject of time, these took days:

From Graffiti: These take just as long, but need to be completed in marathon sessions because there's no save function!

i really dont understand why people spent so much time drawing something in paint that can be done much easier and nice with a proper program.

If you're going to draw individual exhausts, be careful.

Radials almost always have an odd number of cylinders per row in order to minimise vibrational issues.

Generally speaking, it's difficult to get more than 9 cylinders into a row. OTOH, fewer than 7 cylinders is lazy.

Generally it's difficult to cool more than 4 rows.

Generally speaking, you'd expect to see the same number of cylinders on each row, not least because of the production complexity associated with doing anything else.

Therefore, if you go for individual stubs, you'd expect a totals of either:

7
9
14
18
21
27
28
36

Divide by 2 if you want individual stubs on each side of the cowling.

Odd numbers are a problem of course. You could put a single stub under the cowling (over is out unless you never want to fly at night...).

However, 3 row radials are rare. Single row radials often used collector rings.

Exhaust manifold design is extremely interesting but rather complicated. You generally end up with method of characteristics, which is a pain. However, if you know what you're about then there are potentially very attractive performance gains to be had, provided that you stick to a fixed design point.

All of which is a long way of saying that your zero should probably have 9 stubs per side.

Also note that the windscreen as designed is curved and thus unlikely to be bullet proof with WWII technology. I suspect that this would be the one area that the Japanese would seek to render immune to enemy fire, on the basis that bullets going through the windscreen might damage the gunsight...

The prop would be much deeper, especially at the root.

Unfortunately, as an engineer, I'm not a very good art critic...
