I finally got PF in the mail yesterday. Installed it and tried a carrier landing and T/O. I crashed on the first attempt but after that I had no problem. Just use power management on the descent and it's actually not bad. I had more trouble lowering the gear on the F4F. I never realized it was a hand cranked affair.

T/O from the carrier was no problem either. Just keep on the rudder and don't 'horse' is off too soon.

Lsndings take a while to get down pat, i'm still sloppy at them but i can get her down safely all the time. I just have to remember to keep the tail low so the hook catches.

You got that right about keeping the tail low. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow...I´ve been practicing carrier landings since I got the sim a week ago, and still just managed to land safely twice!!! I just can´t get my tail lower enough!!!

Just make sure you're tail hook is deployed befoe you land http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I got it by doing circuits, it's sort of weird i sort of dump it down on the deck with full flaps deployed. when i hit though i automaticallly increase the throttle if i don't feel a catch.

make sure you flare or pull up at the end to drop your tail.

I will admit I have been doing alot of flying on FS2004 while waiting for PF to come out and that has helped tremendously. Especially with the flap and power settings for short field approaches. You cab fly at a higher alpha with the flaps deployed to full provided you have a big enough powerplant (which the Corsairs and Hellcats have)

As a guide watch your forward motion in relation to your rate of descent and add more power to maintain the altitude you need. Remember that elevator controls airspeed and power controls altitude. Right as you cross the round-down chop your throttle and hold that nose up. You should just stall it then and hit the deck to trap the 3 wire. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

wow, this sounds hard, i am not one for landings, if i hit the ground without crashing and burining, imm usually reely happy. wow, they didnt have steam catipults back then either. i cant wait to fly a b-25 of a carrier and bomb tokyo. can u land IL2 aep planes on the deck? or is it just the naval aircraft?

Keep track on your landingspeed 160km/h max, most pilots come it way to fast.
And when you hit the deck, just pull up, so the tail will come down.

I've been a terrible lander in general. Up until now. I know it sounds strange. but trying to land on a carrier helped me figure it all out. Come in _very_ slow, as slow as you can go, nose slightly down, slow enough that even pulling up (dropping your tail) won't make you climb. Right when I'm about to hit the deck I pull up, the tail goes down and I drop onto the deck catching the wire. But I have to be going slow--use the engine to modulate the speed. Oh, and please don't hit the fantail, it messes up the paint.
