View Full Version : Attacking Bombers

I want to learn to do this in a 109. My biggest problem is when closing from side that the view of bomber is often blocked by the canopy frame, then when it pops into view I dont have much time to line up a shot. Plus it takes quite a bit of time to get ahead and line up another shot, good thing I am not defending anything or it would be bombed before I put a scratch in the paint. The track that is used for training (loaded from sim disk) makes it look easy, but he is flying with no cockpit so he has unlimited view. Any tips?

Well slicing attacks from the side are one of the safer methods, then try attacking from a 12 o´clock position slightly from above, as a well placed garb in the cockpit is usually the most effective and least amunition consuming.
Watch the first attack on this video, I think that shows clearly how that goes.

I just don't attack bombers in a 109. Almost never have. Not only is the armament insufficient, but the 109 takes very little to oil your windshield, catch on fire or lose its tail.

If you are looking for practise, here is a handy campaign for you. Nothing but.
When I made this I tried to do frontal attacks but after the first pass I usually just did attacks from between 4 and 8 o'clock high, generally moving around a lot, both vertically and horizontally. e.g. I may start off appearing to target no.3 man in a higher flight but actually be sneakily lining up on the no.2 of the flight in the stack below. Don't know if that makes sense or not, but the thrust of it is: don't fly straight. Alter height, position and do it all FAST!
