So I'm shelling a Liberty from 5000m and someone spots an aircraft - let him have it, says I.

Seconds later the wreck of a Sunderland comes screaming out of the sky in a ball of fire and ploughs straight through the forward deck!

Was the pilot going out in a blaze of glory do you think?

I'm still deciding whether or not to start from scratch again or load a save game. I'm in 1943 with 23 patrols.

If it's of any consolation, you are not the first player it has happened to. Take your lumps like a man.

Many players here play DiD.

That means if you die you have to end the career. Some players delete the captain. (I just move his folder out to a backup for postarity.)

Also DiD players often don't load old games if say they screw up an attack and use 6 torpedos to sink a coastal merchant.

Of course it is up to you how you play but it does add some real tension to the game. A depth charge attack is more scary. A plane attack is something to not get complacent about. Attacking on the surface and deck gun fighting with 2 DD's is not something you can consider anymore.

Well I've started a new career using SH3 Commander so we'll see what that's like!

To tell the truth I've always abandoned careers when I've been killed but this was different because it was the latest into the war I had ever got!

I already started on my 4th career a few weeks ago , i never seem to survive the dreaded year 1944, i still wish there was a abandon ship order , thou don't think it will help much
