2) Douglas Bader, even losing his legs wouldn't stop him from helping to win the good fight.

Ah yes the legless leader, a brave determined man, apparently when Galland heard he had been shot down he arranged for a spare pair of legs to be dropped over, and then wined and dined him before he was sent to a prison camp, from which he tried to escape numerous times.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

When once you have tasted flight,
you will always walk the earth
with your eyes turned skyward;
to where you have been
and to where you always want to return.

1) Bf-109G6/AS with 30mm nose cannon
2) Hauptman Hans-Joachim Marseille
A true rebel of the Luftwaffe , he loved American jazz music ! His superiors found him incorrigible on the ground . Prone to "bending" the rules , he wasn't a very good follower of orders . However , in the air he was a master !! His record of seventeen (!) victories in one day still stands to this day . He served with 1/JG 27 in North Africa . He died when on a routine patrol his new Bf-109G developed engine trouble . He reported smoke filling the cockpit and said that he was bailing out . Upon exiting the plane it is thought that he struck the vertical stabilizer , possibly rendering him unconscience . For whatever reason he fell to his death and died Sept. 30th 1942 . At the time of his death he had 158 aerial victories to his credit .
He mainly flew the Bf-109F4 variant .

I don't fly it much, but the most advanced concept for me is the MiG~3. Porkryshin loved it, cos he alone knew how to Boom and Zoom the low and slow Germans fighters. And while on the MiG he decided to stop all the drinking~n~flying after he missed shooting a Messerschmitt cos of the vodka. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And if the Germans ever bothered with a real strategic bomber force "MiG" would be the most famous Soviet aircraft of WW2. Like bread, or "P~51" for the USAers. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I too, am a rebel, and a misfit. ---> http://www.geocities.com/Sturmvogel_66/mig.html

I fought the oleg and, the oleg won
