I want to change planes in Guadalcanal
In the off line (generated) campaign I don?t want to fly a P-39 (Aircobra with Army markings) as a Marine pilot in Guadalcanal they rarely flew them but mostly flew F4F?s (Wildcats). Can anyone tell me how I can get the whole campaign generator to get me flying Wildcats instead of Aircobras?

Thanks in advance

I have Nimits' TruePacific enhancement installed, and under USMC I have two Gualdalcanal campaigns under Fighter. One has Wilcat only for mission type, and the other has Wilcat and Corsair. TruePacific is available at CombatAce.com

I don't know if TruePacific works with the stand-alone version of Pacific Fighters.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Are you patched up past v3.0 of the game? I remember that several changes were made to the campaigns that shipped on the CD-ROM. You want to at least apply the "3.0 to 3.03" patch -- I think this had the campaign changes and some new maps, but was before the controversial FM changes. You might as well continue with the 4.01, 4.02, 4.03 and 4.04 patches though.

I've just taken a quick look at my 'clean' DGen folder (a backup version I made right after installing 1946 but before moving over my modded DGen folder from Forgotten Battles). In my 'clean' DGen folder, the file that I think controls what planes are available to the Marines is a document named planesUM1.dat ... open yours and see what it says. Mine reads:

[Wake]
F4F3
[Midway]
F4F3
[Guadal2]
F4F4
[Iwo]
F4U1C
F4U1D
[Chichi]
F4U1D
[Okinawa]
F4U1D

Notice what plane is listed under Guadalcanal?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

that's right, the first squadrons there late aug 1942 did fly F4F4 not 3's, I'll change the plane Dat file.
I'll get the patch since my ver is 3.0 and I installed it stand alone. I'll see if the other add-on works with stand alone. What I've done so far (thinking I cracked the code)...
Changed P39 to F4F/3 [now it's should be F4F4] in Missions folder, campaigns sub, UM for (US Marines) info.properties
Conf.dat
XXXhigher number-0.properties
XXXhigher number-0.mis
Watch the Load-outs

It appears that this had to be done each time, what a pain!

thanks for the help and fast response.

True Pacific is designed for the merge install and does not work with the stand alone Pacific Fighters.

The Pacific Fighters patch should, however, get rid of some of the most obvious errors (USMC P-39s, P-40s at Midway, etc.).

Well Brother Cat, I patched, unpatched uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted, etc., etc., etc. Put my saved (last configuration) copy back, patched backward and stopped where it works (3.04) with Leathernecks flying F4F4's at the Canal, so I'm good for now. Too much time away from the wife, plus the frustration to try the ?4? series of patches, but you think they are worth it don?t you. Thanks for the help! I?ll keep experimenting. I?m really enjoying flying in this game.

The 4.xx patches introduced an advanced flight model that 1C:MG is working on for the upcoming Storm of War series. In other words, Pacific Fighters sort of became the test-bed for a future product. Some people liked the new FM when 4.01 was released and claimed that it was more realistic, but others swore that 3.03/3.04 was better, had fewer bugs, etc. Personally, I think the AI became unrealistically superior in 4.xx and the single-player campaigns became overly frustrating. Another problem that persisted from 4.01 through 4.04 was that some of the USN fighters would swing eratically when firing their guns, making it almost impossible to hit targets.

Unfortunately, you'll probably have to upgrade with to the 4.04 patch if you want to play online. Players with the 'merged' version got a bunch of nice extras in the 4.xx patches, like new maps and objects for the Eastern Front and a good collection of new flyables; Players with the 'standalone' version got some of these new planes and objects but it was only a handful in comparison. I forget if the Betty was made flyable before the 4.01 patch ...

The gunnery problem seems to have been fixed in the new IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 DVD, and I think the 'uber' AI is toned down as well. Unfortunately you can't patch to this newest version (4.07) from the 'standalone' Pacific Fighters by any means.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In addition to the new FMs, here is what you'd gain with the 4.01 through 4.04 patches if you have just the 'stand-alone' version of PF:

Flyable Aircraft
- Ki-100-I-Ko, 1945
- G4M1-11 Betty, 1941
- Spitfire MK.Vc (2), 1941 - 2 cannons, RAAF, -- Pacific.P-38L late, 1944 ? 1720 hp engines.
- Buffalo MK I.
- P-47D, 1944: 150 octane and increased boost pressure. Performance almost like P-47M.
- Mosquito FB.MK.VI
- J2M3

AI aircraft
- G4M2E Betty, 1945
- MXY7 Ohka, 1945
- J2M5
- N1K2-Ja
- Mosquito F.MK.IV

Fixes to AI and flight model
- adjusted ground effect.
- adjusted gyro effect.
- Aerodynamic focus dependency on angle of attack.
- P-39 no longer rolls when the engine is started / shut off
- formation algorithm.
- take-off.
- landing / taxi.
- Bombing in shallow dive for fighters and fighter-bombers (attack aircraft).
- Fixed a bug with Mosquito damage modeling.
- Patched up a hole in the Mosquito cockpit.
- Fire extinguishers added to the Mosquito.
- Corrected some bomber formation AI.

New AI ground objects
- Type 38 75mm Field
- Type 91 105mm Howitzer
- US Bulldozer
- US Bus

New maps
- Singapore 1 - historical
- Singapore 2 - with additional non historical aircraft bases for the Japanese and Dutch air forces. (This map is not indicated as being for the stand-alone version as well as merged, but I assume that it is.)

New Clouds
The new patch introduces brand new clouds. In order to use them you must manually edit the conf.ini file located in your main game folder before launching the game.

New Dynamic Campaigns
Please check the campaign menu.

Reworked water render
To see the updated water render please modify the Water section in the file conf.ini in the [Render_OpenGL] section.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
