I've really struggled with gunnery, in part because I can't keep planes stable at various speeds/attitudes. I trim like crazy to get enough elevator authority to turn with the AI, then I have to trim like crazy again when I'm linig up the shot. I never seem to have enough elevator range without excessive trimming. What makes things worse is that trim response seems slow, so I often overcorrect. I'm not making any progress. I'd really appreciate a few pointers to get me started (gain curves, a way to cheat the trim so it's more responsive, calibrating the controller so they have more aggressive range--something).

I have CH Products FighterStick, Pro Throttle, and Pro Pedals. I usually use CH Products Control Manager instead of letting the game see the controllers individually (lets me reserve a couple of buttons for TrackIR and RW Voice).

Thanks

I just trim for cruising. This is simple if your alttitude and speed remain fairly constant, which is most of the time. When I get to the target, I usually leave the trim where it was for cruising, but if I need extra mobility, I center the trim and forget it. After work is done, retrim to cruise back to base, center trim and forget it before landing.

If your trying to use the trim on most online dogfight servers, just skip it. Most of the time you meet enemy fire before you reach 1000 meters anyway, no time or reason to trim. Just start shooting! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks. I'll give the center trim thing a whirl. As it was, I was losing all kinds of elevator range trying to trim. But I was also mixing in the joystick wheels which, I guess, are not the same kind of trim as in the game. I was probably also using both and "piling up" the offset.
