for stand alone install of PF 3.0(no patch), 3.01, 3.02, or 3.03?

3.02b, obviously. However, 3.03 is more realistic.

With all due respect, but it is not so obvious, I think. I can't figure out which one fits my previous patches. And why do they warn me about where to install it ? They never did so with the previous patches. So what's the big deal suddenly ? Isn't it obvious that I install the latest patch where I did so with the previous one ? A trifle confusing in my opinion.

3.03 is the way to go...

If only because the F4U now behaves more like an aeroplane and not an antigravity device.

That's funny ! A few topics higher I' ve just read that the new patch ****s things up for the corsair. My PF is working pretty fine without the new and suspicious patch. I think I'll wait until I read nothing but good news here.

If you wait that, you'll never can install any patch. As ElAu said Corsair-boys have to follow laws of physics now, so naturally those who abused this error, are unhappy now.

patches are like planes, some are good for some things, some are good for others, no best patch IMO.

So what's the consensus? If not 3.03, then 3.02 is next best? Or is PF3 right outta the box better than all three patches? Put the FM aside. Which patch did a better job at improving frame rates and eye-candy? Which patch addressed the most issues besides flight modelling?

The best patch is whichever is latest, because that's the one everyone is going to be flying online. Unless you don't fly online, in which case it's a matter of preference. In PF out of the box, some planes seemed to turn better than I expected, namely the F4U, P51, and P47. In 3.01, it seems they made the stalls a little nastier and more sudden. 3.03 even more so, but my guess is that it's a bit more real than earlier versions. I dunno. In 3.03 I get to get my a$$ kicked in an F2A, which I find very cool, so I like 3.03. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks Wil. That's what I was looking for. I'm not an "on-liner" anymore. Those days are long gone. I've been in so many squadrons since the days of Flanker 1, Longbow 2, and F4 that it's just not fun anymore. Never got into ICI's Warbirds. I guess Yeager's Combat Sims turned me off to prop planes. Same with SWOTL. So, now as an "old fart" retiree, it looks like I'll give these old "stall machines" another look. With the exception of the aforementioned "biggie" jet sims, most boom 'n zoom sims were good for instant gratification and hence great for fast-paced on-line play. With this sim, I'll just take my time and relearn how to fly. Carrier landings and hops were never really a problem for me due to all the jet sims that modelled them fairly well. But this trading fuel for weapons takeoffs has me a bit miffed. Some will say that it's more attuned to real physics. Hmmm, I have my reservations about that. I hardly think most planes with ANY modest loadout had to brush the water upon leaving the carrier deck before gaining altitude in WWII. So it looks like I'll reinstall with 3.02. THanks again.

talon, i couldent say it better myself.i DO NOT like the new patch.god forbid you say ANYTHING negetive in these forums or else you get belittled by a squadron of oleg sucking fanboys.I doubt this game will be COMPLETED.i really wish i knew how to remove the latest patch.the take offs for american planes now is just not right.trading off fuel to take off is silly.all these guys SWEAR that they have somehow "measured" the take off speeds of the virtual planes to the stats of the real planes and they all say its right.seems %$#@ up to me.mabye the carriers are out of scale, mabye the fact there is no "wind",who knows..the new patch IMO blows goats.i have a high end system with this game pretty much maxxed out and i havent seen any graphical,or performance improvements.i think im going to reinstall CFS2 pacific, which was very cool, and reinstall this whole **** program,so i dont have to mess with the new patch.i play mainly champaign, not much online so the corsair online performance dosent matter to me.

I have been able to take off with 50% Fuel and HVAR rockets in an F4U from a static carrier, from the default spawn point. That's good enough for me. I'm guessing that that means I could probably take off from a moving carrier with 100% fuel. I'll go check it out right now.

Since I don't fly online, I finally gave up on v3.03 and went back to v3.01. V3.03 porked the USN aircraft so badly that it wasn't worth it anyway.

And as I look at your posts, all 46 of them, I see that you generally start off on the wrong foot here, almost every time. Never anythng constructive, always "this sucks" or "you suck" etc... You have done nothing but bash PF since you started posting here. No ideas for improvement, no research into the historical performance of the aircraft in question, nothing but ranting. Take some time, get the pilots's manuals for the Corsair and read them.

If you do you will find that the FM of the Corsair up to V3.03 was incorrect. If you are really ambitious you could do some research and find that corsairs were never operated off of the class of escort carrier we have in PF. See, even a "fanboy" like me can point out innacuracies in the sim. Like the original Corsair FM.

Why not try checking your attitude at the door next time?

@HOTMUD: If you change letters in words, it doesn`t change the meaning. Enjoy your vacation - probably long one too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Your account suspended. I would suggest not to create another one and cool off a bit. Thanks ivan !

In an attempt to bring this post back to its original question . I agree with you "ElAurens" but the problem i see in 303 is they totally forgot to test this patch. If they had they would have found that the ai planes can barely get off the carriers if at all but they missed this by a mile . A quick little change in the missions done by the ic crew would have made this a moot point since all the carriers could have been changed to work. This would have added a very small dl time so it shouldn't have been to hard to do.The only real gripe then would come from the onliners and i'm sure it would be fixed and probably will be. But were all stuck with a very complicated takeoff (use trim , flaps here , 25%fuel , 2-500lb bombs but no hvars etc. )and it shouldnt be so difficult. Real life , ya maybe , but the game isnt real life. I like it hard but not virtually impossible without changin all kinds of perameters. As some have said ( and i havent been there so im speculating from others posts ), this problem exsists in campaign mode too ,so its not isolated to just practice missions. So in answer to the original question , if you like the corsair use 302b until the next patch , if you like it harder use 303. And last but not least , Hope it gets fixed!!

The carriers cant just be "changed to work", they've never "worked" if u mean what i think u mean which is that they move on a dogfight server. They simply do not, i can't tell you the specific reasons because i don't know them but they're there. Secondly, this game is supposed to be modelled as closely to the real thing as possible. The idea is not to balance play or make it easy for beginners, the idea is to be an exact copy of the real thing. I think you'll find if you get a big carrier going full steam, taking off wont be such a chore, which is what they did in real life. Also they could have a stiff headwing that aided them taking off, which we do not have.
