Maybe most of you have already seen this. If so I apologize. I am posting it because it reminds me of recent topics related to pilot fatigue.

I think it would still be fun.

bump

it's a very valuable video footage, especially if you have never felt the effect of G-forces on your own body

it would be really funny to see this modelled. in high-G turns, the external view would show your virtual pilot doing the same...maybe even taking the barf bag....

He's very intent on chewing that gum even during those high Gs.

Did you watch his commentary?

He said he chewed on the gum with some ginger ingredient, helping to avoid nausenia (apologies for bad spelling), i.e., getting sick. He wasn't trying to play the tough guy, although he looks like it.

I must give credit to the guy, honestly. Passing out in front of the camera 3 times is humiliating. But he took it well, he knew it, and he would have done it again. Maybe he knows that any of us would have ended up in the same ridiculous status under that 7.5 G turns... with beautiful wingtip vortices behind....

Hehe cool vid.
When I was in the nav they would take new aircrew trainees for a flight and almost everytime they'd have to clean their own mess up when they got back.

And that was in an EA-6B (A-6 variant), nothing compared to what an F-18 can do...

The passing out is inevitable, but very few people don't lose their lunch the first time.
I guess the gum idea works pretty well...

if you liked this video, read the article "Strapping on an F-16" as well. http://www.avweb.com/news/skywrite/181916-1.html

there's an interesting part when the pilot is starting to get sick, not the passenger http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"He let me fly some more just doddling around the sky. Apparently, my random control inputs began to irritate him. "Don't push on the stick, I hate that, gets my stomach. If you want to lose altitude, just bank it into a fairly steep turn without pulling back and that'll get you down." This, I couldn't believe. A fighter pilot with a weak stomach! Hmmf! And that was the most fun for me, doing little 100-foot dives like a roller coaster. Oh well, our range time was just about to "expire." He took the controls again and pointed the nose toward home."
