Don't play online using UBI.com-gameservice. It's a pain somewhere, I don't want to write here. I suggest you try this

This is where most of us meet online. No need to adjust anything, choose any IP (which is probably your problem) and there are MANY servers on HL, that really rock, with nice people and for all needs. From the learning and testing servers to Virtual Online Wars. Download it, install it and join us. Hope to fly with you, soon. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Oh, one mor thing: Don't believe the **** you gonna find about HL. There is a poor guy, a known cheater, who accuses the programmer of HL to work for some company, making HL spyware or something else. Just don't believe it.

I went online for the first time just last week. After having the same problem as you I posted here and was directed to HL. Just download and install it. It is really painless. Then to access online games, start up HL, not FBAEPPF (that was what confused me), select the game you want, browse through the list of current games on the left and click on one you want to join. It'll start up the game for you.
NB - this will sound totally obvious but remember to allow HyperLobby AND (and this is important) the ACTUAL GAME through your firewall!!! Apparently SOME people forget to do this then wonder why they can't connect (ahem, whistles innocently http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif)Of course I can't relate to that at all. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
