Straight Into an Icy Hell - A Japanese Seaplane Campaign by Zeus-cat

This campaign requires a merged install of IL-2/Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters of version 4.04m or higher to play.

This campaign is a 14 mission sequel to my previous Rufe campaign "Straight Shot". It is not necessary to play Straight Shot before playing this campaign, but it is recommended.

With your success in the South Pacific, you are now in command of the seaplane chutai on the IJN Heavy Cruiser Hashimoto. You will be catapulted off the cruiser to undertake various missions including intercept, recon and attack in your A6M2-N seaplane (Allied designation Rufe). You have moved from the warm waters of the South Pacific to the frigid, barren wasteland of the Aleutians. You left Tokyo Bay three weeks ago and are now approaching your new base of operations with two freighters of vital equipment and supplies.

Up until now, the Aleutians has been a theater where tired men operate tired equipment that should have been stricken from the inventory years ago. With the arrival of the Hashimoto and the two freighters of supplies for Hikuru Base, the balance of power in this region will certainly shift in favor of the Emperor!

You have you orders - now do your duty!

Now this one is brillaint folks. A Rufe in the snow. C'mon.

Seriously I tested it for the man and it really is the most unique campaign I have ever played.

Many thumbs up http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I haven't played the campaign, but how did you manage to get an IJN heavy cruiser in the game?

Ummm substitution, I playd "Straight Shot" and it was a generic IJN BB (KGV) but well just doesn't matter the campaign was fun and very unusual looking forward to this.

joeap is correct, the "heavy cruiser" is really the generic Japanese battleship. I called it a heavy cruiser as it didn't make sense to have a battleship sailing around all by itself.

And if you are a real stickler for accuracy, you can't really see the ship most of the time anyway as the visibilty is usually really, really bad.

I was convinced it was a heavy cruiser. In fact I still believe it. That's how good this campaign is.

oleg's aaa wins. killed on first pass every time. i give up. mission 4 - dead is dead.

04-26-2006, 08:39 AM
What was #4 mission? The bulldozer raid? Or the AA raid?

Either is do-able. Come in really, really fast and low. Or send in your flight ahead of you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am tree quarter trough now, I catch a cool and are home from office to day.
Played it all day. Not a boring moment.
I like it werry much. Sneeking in in at 100 meter high.
Now I can set the Rufe gently on the shore without breaking ennyting.
Thank you for a good and interesting campain.

Just finished reading the book, "Thousand Mile War" about the Aluetian campaign, from the little I've seen so far this looks very inviting. Thanks Zeus for your time and effort.

aaa. took me a few times to get through the bulldozer mission, too.

i quoted my problem. i haven't figured out the user friendly interface to control ai. i don't have a clue who i'm supposed to tell what. i'm just a number pressing machine flying alone with desires to kick in my monitor.

i apologize if my post sounded like i was knocking the campaign. it seems pretty cool. i posted that hastily after getting killed by aaa for the 6 time in a row(heard that psycho music from the Kill Bill movies Uma Thurman always hears right before she's about to kill somebody the last time i saw that "re-fly" button).

I didn't think you were knocking the campaign, I just didn't want you to give up. (You said "I give up")

You've posted a picture of Uma. If there was anything to forgive, it has been. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'm digging up an old'n here, but I've just got half way thro Straight Shot, and I'm having a blast chasing that coast watcher http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif and now I'm really looking forward to this next one......I just wanted to drop a note here to Zeus-cat,to say "thank you very much for all your time and effort making these wonderful campaigns" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Glad you are enjoying Straight Shot.

As people may have noticed, I prefer to make campaigns using aircraft that most people ignore. Fighter campaigns can be fun, but they tend to be repetitive in my opinion. Campaigns with the Rufe, IL-2T and SBD-3 have provided me with the opportunity to create many different types of missions.
