Top Ten Submarines

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Or it was simply pushed back.

Anyway. The Military Channel program Top Ten found the type VII submarine as the top ranking sub. It even beat out the GATO. This is of course a poll of opinion, but so are most polls. Absent from the list, the type XXI.

Fancy that. I must have skipped over that part. As well it should be on the list.

Reducing the list to 10 is very limiting. I'm curious what didn't make the list and by what margin they didn't. For example the Narwal class and Surcouf? The French sub with the twin gun turret.


I retrieved the prgoram from my DVR. I was curious how I missed the XXI. On the program, number 9 is the germn type 31 boat from WWI. So the show is different from their results on the net.

My opinion, but no M1 with the gun of a battleship, the sister ship of the M1 was the first sub to carry aircraft so should be ahead of the japanese sub.
Also the only nuclear sub to sink a ship in anger was missing, HMS Conqueror a Churchill-class sub.

But type-VII had to be first and great to see the X-craft making an appearance too.
